Outreach Commission Mission Statement: “As followers of Christ, we partner with charitable organizations to bring spiritual, physical, and mental well-being to those suffering from hunger, poverty, homelessness and isolation.”

Each week, we’re (re)introducing you to one of St. Matthew’s Outreach Ministries:

Hope House Hope House was founded in 1968, and is located in Liberty Hill. The mission of Hope House has been to provide a long-term, forever home to individuals with severe mental and physical disabilities. One of the new buildings there is named Mike’s House in honor of parishioner Mary Nell Frucella’s late son, Mike, who had acute disabilities. Hope House is one of few places in Texas that provide this level of care. They welcome volunteers of all sorts. If you’re interested in making a difference at Hope House, please contact Mary Nell Frucella at [email protected]. You can go to the website, too, to find out more or to volunteer: www.hopehouseaustin.org. Submitted by Mary Nell Frucella

Offshoots Small Groups

Offshoots small groups are a chance for parishioners to share our passions with one another and our neighbor. This initia-tive grows out of the idea that wherever Christians are present, the body of Christ is revealed. So have some fun with these groups, get to know your fellow parishioners, and invite a friend to “come and see” a little glimpse of the Kingdom. If you want to form your own Offshoot with support from church staff and clergy, email [email protected] and [email protected]. Once you have the okay from Fr. Christian, please email the group info to [email protected] for entry into the WW and website. Formation of groups is a rolling process throughout the year, so keep your ideas coming!

Otherwise, this week’s food needs are: peanut butter, canned mixed vegetables, canned fruit, canned chili, canned ham, Hamburger/Tuna Helper, and spaghetti sauce (in plastic container or cans). You are of course welcome to bring any food items that you can spare. April Youth Events Thanks to everyone who has helped make this spring go glorious thus far. We have some really fun, and meaningful events coming up. We hope that you, and any of your friends, will join us for the following:

Sundays, 4/15 & 4/22—Spring Confirmation Classes! Students (grade 6 and up) interested in being confirmed by Bishop Harrison on 4/29, please join me for our spring confirmation classes. These will be held on two consecutive Sundays after the 10:30 am service. The Book of Common Prayer defines confirmation as “the rite in which we express a mature commit-ment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a Bishop” (p. 860). Over the course of these classes, students will gain an understanding and appreciation for our traditions as Christians

and Episcopalians. Through teaching, conversation (and Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones, and other video clips ), stu-dents learn about the significance of this important Rite of Passage! Classes are from 12:00-3:00 pm; and will meet in the Breezeway Conference Room (gather in front of the Bell Tower) on 4/15 and in the Youth Center on 4/22. Light lunch & snacks provided.

Sunday 4/15—Mini-Golf!! (Jr. High vs. Sr. High). We’ll grab some food truck grub and break into two groups: junior high & senior high for some friendly Resurrection season mini-golf festivities! Join us for a chance to hang with your own age group—and prove who is the mightiest grade-group of them all! Prizes to be awarded. Bring $ for food. 5:30-8:00 pm. (Early) drop-off and pick-up, Peter Pan Golf (Barton Springs Rd. & S. Lamar).

Sunday 4/29—SOS On-Campus (Jr. High & Sr. High), Led by PIPSOS!! Our last youth-led event (Olympic-themed, with floor hockey and figure skating) was EPIC! Come one come all for our monthly SOS-Lead Youth Group! What will they come up with?! Dinner served. 6:00-8:00 pm, Youth Center.

SAVE THE DATE—Missionpalooza! 2018. Our annual diocese-wide mission trip (open to rising 7th-12th graders) will be July 22-27, 2018. This year, we will be going to Coastal Bend region of the Diocese of West Texas (Corpus Christi/Port Aransas/Rockport area) to work on Harvey-affected areas. Official registration details will be forthcoming; but please register your interest with Travis via email at [email protected].
