Macomb Gate Closure — Macomb Gate will be closed
Jan. 11-22 to complete a secu-
rity upgrade. McNair, Foote
and Lyman gates will all re-
main open 24 hours during
this time.

Preparing Children
For Deployment — Fam-
ily Strong Hawaii will offer
classes Jan. 22, 9 a.m.-noon
and 1-4 p.m., at the Main Post
Chapel Annex, Schofield Bar-
racks. Family Strong classes
offers classes aimed at help-
ing families create plans that
teach both parents and chil-
dren how to maintain positive
connections and healthy cop-
ing during deployment. Call

Tax Center — Schofield’s
Tax Center will be open be-
ginning Jan. 20, for E1-4, and
Jan. 25, for all others, Mon-
day-Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Call

Scholarships for Mili-
tary Children — Applica-
tions are being accepted for
the 2010 Scholarships for
Military Children Program.
Eligible applicants should
prepare to submit an essay on
the following topic: ―You can
travel back in time; however,
you cannot change events.
What point in history would
you visit and why?‖
Applications must be
turned in to a commissary by
close of business Feb. 17. At
least one scholarship will be
awarded at every store loca-
tion with qualified applicants.

Art and Essay Contest — The Armed Services
YMCA’s annual art and essay
contest invites military chil-
dren to create artwork and
essays on this year’s themes,
―My Military Hero‖ and ―My
Military Family.‖
Entries for the art contest
must be postmarked no later
than Feb. 19, and are for chil-
dren in grades K–6. Students
in grades 1-12 are asked to
write their essay about ―My
Military Hero‖ and postmark
entries no later than March
19.
Winning entrees will be
displayed in a number of loca-
tions in the Washington D.C.
area, and winners will be rec-
ognized at a luncheon on
Capitol Hill. Entry forms are
available at www.asymca.org.
Military Kids Camp —
Operation: Military Kids
Camp-Hawaii, along with
YMCA-Camp Erdman, is of-
fering two family camps
geared toward helping re-
cently redeployed service
members and their families
reconnect. The camp, sched-
uled April 9-11, is open for
registration.

Great Aloha Run Sign-Up - Stop
by the Navy Exchange store in the
Pearl Harbor area to sign-up for
the Great Aloha Run! The sign-up
will take place on Jan. 18, 10 a.m.-
2 p.m., and everyone who signs up
that day will receive a 2010 Great
Aloha Run Planner for every paid

Earth Day Recycled Art Contest
- April 22, 2010 will be the 40th
anniversary of Earth Day. To cele-
brate, the libraries will be hosting
a 100% Recycled Art Contest. En-
ter your art made of recycled mate-
rials to any Army library or the
Schofield Barracks Arts & Crafts
Center by March 30. Contest is

NFL Sunday Ticket - What are
you doing for the playoffs? When
the competition narrows down to
the best of the best, you better
have a plan for where to catch all
the action! You're in luck, Tropics
Recreation Center still has all the
games-IN HI DEF! Just because
you're out here in the islands does-
n't mean you can't celebrate your
team just like back home! Just
come by the Tropics on Saturdays
and Sundays all January long to
watch the best of the best battle it
out for NFL supremacy. Dust off
those old jerseys, get your smack
talk ready and come cheer on your

Scrap & Pour Madness - Stop by
the Schofield Barracks Arts and
Crafts Center on Jan. 15, 5-10 p.m.
for a scrapbooking and ceramic
pouring marathon! Cost is just $5
for scrappers and $10 for pourers.
Scrappers can work on your own
projects, use our Cricut die cutter
and socialize with your friends. An
instructor will be available for new
creative ideas. Pourers can pour up
to 10 molds with no user fees.

Big Surf Watch Bike Trip - En-
joy a nice relaxing bike ride along
North Shore beaches with Outdoor
Recreation on Jan. 10, 7 a.m.-12
p.m. Check out the world-famous
North Shore surfing scene and all
the big waves without all the
traffic hassles and moving at your
own pace. Cost is just $30 if using
your own bike with an extra $5 if
you need to use one of ours.

from Schofield Barracks is avail-

Big R: Bunco - It’s Bunco Time!
Come celebrate another month of
deployment complete with your
Blue Star Card friends on Friday,
January 22 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at
the Tropics. Bunco is a fun dice
game and is a great for socializing!
It’s also very easy and quick to
learn, if you don’t know how to
play. Light pupus and childcare
will be provided. For more infor-
mation or to register for this event,

18.
Create-a-Card—Family Mem-
bers of Deployed Soldiers are in-
vited to create a Valentine card to
send to their Soldier on Wednes-
day, January 27, from 2:00-4:00 pm
at Sgt Yano Library, Bldg 560,
Schofield Barracks. Bring your
creativity and we will supply the
