There are ten Sunday Masses between Cabinteely, Foxrock and Johnstown, many of them at the same time. The Parish Pastoral Councils in Cabinteely and Foxrock parishes are working with me in reviewing the current situation and together we are looking at creative solutions that will ensure that the faith communities in Cabinteely/Foxrock will continue to be nourished and survive into the future. The Archbishop has indicated that he hopes to appoint another priest to replace the late Fr Gerry Doyle. But he has given no indication as to when that would happen. He has also explained that it is not easy to find a priest. We will continue to communicate with our respective Parish Communities in all processes of discernment and planning, confident that with your support, input and most importantly your prayers, God will help light up the path for all. Planning for The Future

I write to update you on the current situation facing both

Cabinteely and Foxrock Parishes. It is now eight months since I was

asked to look after Foxrock Parish in addition to Cabinteely Parish,

where I have been for over two years. I did not think that I would still

be in this situation eight months on.

A crisis is not always a bad thing. The Chinese character for

‘Crisis’ denotes both risk and opportunity. We were fortunate in

Foxrock to have the assistance of Fr Francis up to Christmas and of Fr

Emmet for two months after Christmas.

I am grateful also for the generosity of the retired priests in

Cabinteely and Foxrock, the dedication of the staff and volunteers,

without whom it would not have been possible to have got this far.

Clearly the current services are not sustainable into the future. The

reality is that Foxrock had two full time priests and Cabinteely had one

full time priest and now there is just one full time priest for Cabinteely

and Foxrock Parishes. In the parish of Foxrock there is mass at 7.25

AM in the Divine Masters, 10 AM in Foxrock Church, and 11.30 AM and

4 PM in Cornelscourt Oratory each day while there is 10 AM Mass in

Cabinteely on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and at 10 AM in

Johnstown Monday to Saturday. There are ten Sunday Masses

between Cabinteely, Foxrock and Johnstown, many of them at the

    same time.

The Parish Pastoral Councils in Cabinteely and Foxrock

parishes are working with me in reviewing the current situation and

together we are looking at creative solutions that will ensure that the

faith communities in Cabinteely/Foxrock will continue to be nourished

and survive into the future. The Archbishop has indicated that he

hopes to appoint another priest to replace the late Fr Gerry Doyle. But

he has given no indication as to when that would happen. He has also

explained that it is not easy to find a priest.

We will continue to communicate with our respective Parish

Communities in all processes of discernment and planning, confident

that with your support, input and most importantly your prayers, God

will help light up the path for all.

    WEEKLY NEWSLETTER 14th April 2019

  • April 14, 2019

Palm Sunday of the Passion of

    the Lord

Palm Sunday is a strange day in our

liturgical calendar. We begin by waving

palms, but somewhere in the middle, we

call for Jesus to be crucified. We celebrate

today an equally paradoxical God, one

who comes to save through suffering.

"I tell you, if they keep silent, the stones

will cry out!" Jesus, who so often in the

Gospels tries to hide his true identity,

    speaks thunderously to the Pharisees

who would still the rejoicing crowd. At

the Last Supper, Jesus confirms the

Messianic promise to his disciples, saying

"I confer a kingdom on you, just as my

Father has conferred one on me." Yet,

before the night is over, Jesus has been

    betrayed.

We hear the tragedy unfold in Luke's

Passion narrative. Jesus is abused by the

council of elders, denied by Peter,

    whipped by Roman soldiers, and

condemned to death by Pilate. But what

else do we see? Jesus heals someone who

came to arrest him, forgives his torturers,

promises a repentant man paradise, and -

by his loving endurance - converts a

centurion at the foot of the cross. Jesus is

both Redeemer of the World and

Suffering Servant. In taking on the mantle

of Messiah, Jesus does not only receive

our praise and our accolades, but he bears

our burdens and sins and does so with the

deepest love. He may go about our

salvation in a paradoxical way, but he is

dearer to our own suffering hearts for it.

This week, we remember that no sorrow

of our own is beyond the reach of the

    compassion of God.

As we approach this beautiful Season of Easter, activities will be a little quieter in the Centre. On Holy Thursday the Garden of Repose will be set up in the Hall. Good Friday the Centre will be closed.

Maeve Davidson continues with the Lent Reflection each Tuesday morning in St. Brigid’s Room. Our Bridge Clubs will be continuing apart from Easter Monday when the Centre is closed. Have a fantastic Easter and see you all

after the Easter break, as I will be

heading away for a few days over

    Easter.

    Enjoy your week Róisín

The annual Way of the Cross through the Phoenix Park will

take place on Good Friday, 19th April. Led by Archbishop

Diarmuid Martin, it will begin at the Wellington Monument

at 12.00 midday and proceed to the Papal Cross.

Good Friday Ecumenical Walk and Taize Prayer around the Cross: On Good

Friday evening, April 19 2019, Archbishop Diarmuid Martin and Archbishop

Michael Jackson (Church of Ireland Archbishop of Dublin) shall once again lead a

silent walk through Dublin's city streets carrying a cross from Christchurch

Cathedral to St Mary's Pro-Cathedral. This begins with a moment of prayer in

Christchurch at 7.15pm after which the two Archbishops will quietly lead us

through the city centre as they carry the cross of the ecumenical monastic

community of Taizé across the Liffey to St Mary's arriving around 8pm. Those

who wish can stay in the Pro-Cathedral for a meditative Prayer around the Cross

with the chants of Taizé which lasts approximately an hour. All are welcome.

  • ‘But (when so sad thou canst not sadder)

Cry--and upon thy so sore loss

Shall shine the traffic of Jacob's ladder

Pitched betwixt Heaven and Charing Cross.

Yea, in the night, my Soul, my daughter,

    Cry--clinging to Heaven by the hems;

And lo, Christ walking on the water,

    Not of Genesareth, but Thames!
