Mentor, Digital Media Zone, University of Missouri, Aug 2011-July 2012

Co-taught for three semesters a completely online course, IS&LT 4360 & 7360: Introduction

to Web Development. Provided students who have taken any online courses offered by the

Digital Media Zone assistance through phone calls, face-to-face and online means.

Research Assistant, Information Experience Lab, University of Missouri, Aug 2009-Aug 2011

Led and participated in client projects evaluating the usability of websites and platforms for

universities, healthcare systems, and companies, such as Cerner HealthCare, Shelter

Insurance, and Federal Reserve Bank. Responsibilities: client communication, project

Research Assistant, an online boating education research project, funded by the National

Aug 2007-Jun 2008. Helped American students deal with life and academic issues while studying

Educational Design Research to bridge medical education research and practice

Instigation Period: Oct 2018 – present (PI)

Collaborated with Dr. Thomas C. Reeves. Writing papers to introduce Educational Design

Research to medical educators as a methodology to guide the integration of research activities

into the iterative process of constructing educational innovations. Finished the first submission to

Medical Teacher.

Teaching the core principles of EPA3 through a longitudinal and integrated curriculum

Investigation Period: June 2018- present. Grant awarded to Andrew Parsons, Eli Williams, and

Joesph Wiencek and Weichao Chen: Medical Education Fellowship Awards Committee at

University of Virginia, $28,025, Year of 2019 Collaborated with clinical faculty to apply for the grant, construct and implement a longitudinal

curriculum to teach medical students the principles of EPA3 and study its impact.

Development and Evaluation of Online Geriatrics Curriculum on Fall and Fall Prevention for

the 3rd and 4th Year Medical Students at UVA

Investigation Period: July 2015- present. Grant awarded (listed as Co-PI): Academy of

Distinguished Educators at University of Virginia School of Medicine, $12,000, 2015-2016

Collaborated with: Dr. Huai Cheng (Leading-PI) to apply for the grant, design an online

educational program for geriatric clerkship, collaborate with technology team to implement the

design, and research the outcomes. Led a usability evaluation of the online program.

Adopting Weblogs to enhance instructional interaction and learning assessment Investigation Period: May 2004-Jan, 2008. PI (solo) for Grant awarded: Beijing Normal

Lead student researcher. PI: Dr. Jiyou Jia. The team introduced an online robot, CSIEC, into high

school and college English classes. Led an investigation of strategies to integrate this innovation
