Harmonisation – the key to market success!

Until quite recently ATEX was recognised as the European standard and IEC as the non-European standard for Hazardous Area Equipment.

The Klippon® TB is one of the first enclosures to offer component approval and certification against the newly released IEC / EN 60079 series of standards, which finally present a harmonised approach to the design and construction of equipment intended for use in Hazardous Areas.

Klippon® TB overview

The name Klippon® has long been synonymous with the supply of terminals and enclosures for use in both industrial and hazardous area (Ex) markets. Klippon® is a trade name of the international Weidmüller Group of companies which has sales, production facilities and agents in over 70 countries world-wide.

In fiscal 2006, Weidmüller generated sales of € 443 million and currently employs some 3,000 people world-wide.

Weidmüller started manufacturing enclosures in the 1960’s. Since then our reputation as a competent and reliable partner has been demonstrated on many occasions and this is reinforced by our innovatively designed products that meet the most demanding market requirements.

This experience has been utilised in the design of the New Klippon® TB range, which has been built to withstand the harshest environments. This range of enclosures offers improved on-site accessibility coupled with many more design improvements.

The Klippon® TB range delivers outstanding performance in the severest conditions and meets the needs of the increasingly demanding world-wide environments. As more and more areas fall under the world-wide hazardous area legislation you need an enclosure that is designed to meet these increasingly stringent requirements.

Klippon® TB – Key Features

Gasket compression control has been incorporated throughout the design of the enclosure. Over compression of gaskets leads to the collapse of the cellular structure and results in loss of the IP rating.

The Klippon® TB features a broad lip around the aperture of the enclosure. This eliminates knife-edge contact, preventing damage to the cellular structure of the gasket. Silicone gasket material is standard across the New Klippon® TB range; offering improved temperature characteristics and resistance to chemical attack.

The Moisture / Dust Channel runs around the aperture of the body of the enclosure. This ensures that any debris / moisture present on the surface of the enclosure will not enter the enclosure when the lid is opened.

The position of the internal mounting pillars has been optimised to allow the greatest size of mounting plate / assembly rail to be utilised, whilst still allowing full accessibility for tooling.

In addition, the diameter of the pillar has been increased, offering greater clamping stability.

The dimensions of the gland plates have been optimised to allow the greatest number of entries for each size of enclosure. Weidmüller offer gland plates in 3 mm thick material as standard and 6 mm as an option for applications where tapped entries are required.

The new Klippon® TB range of enclosures is available with 1, 2, 3 or 4 gland plates.The gland plates incorporate rounded corners offering protection against injury.

The hinge pin is designed to prevent accidental removal of the lid whilst allowing removal without the need for tooling.

Captive hinge pins prevent loose parts being lost in the field. The hinge system also allows the lid to be opened by up to 170 degrees, for ease of access.

Earth studs are equipped with a sealing mechanism and are keyed to prevent rotation.

An M10 Internal / External earth stud is fitted as standard – M12, M14 and M16 are also available as option.

A drop-in label holder (illustrated below) is available as an option, incorporating features to locate and retain the label once it has been inserted.

This feature allows labels to be retro-fitted by users onsite (post installation) without compromising the ingress protection of the enclosure.

The information panel pictured (below) indicates the ATEX markings, the enclosure serial numbers and the maximum dissipated power as required.

With our RailDesigner® software you are much more flexible: This design program enables you to configure individual enclosures by simply selecting the enclosure type from our standard range. You can add drill holes and adapt the enclosure to suit your needs. Furthermore you can incorporate it into your CAD program and create labels via an export interface with the Weidmüller M-Print® PRO software which can be printed out with our PrintJet.

Oil, gas & petrochemical industry

Applications placed into a harsh or hazardous environments require an approval. Our Klippon® TB range of enclosures are certified to a variety of international standards including the latest European ATEX 94/9/EG and IEC-EX standards. These enclosures are typically used in instrumentation and control applications and are ideally suited to meet the demanding needs of the petrochemical industries.

Power industry

Designed to meet the quality and high standards demanded by the power industry (power generation and distribution). The enclosures are suitable for low voltage distribution, lighting and instrumentation applications.

Standard industrial application

Weidmüller Klippon® TB enclosures are also ideally suited for a variety of industrial applications where control, measurement or power connections are required. For demanding environments these enclosures offer a high ingress protection and an impact resistance of up to 10 Joules. The pad-lockable designed door offers both easy access and enhanced product security
