GOD CALLS US TO WORSHIP Prelude: “O Worship the King” ............................................................................. arr. Haan

Welcome & Greeting

Call to Worship: Psalm 24

The earth is the LORD’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it; for he has founded it on the seas, and established it on the rivers. Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD? And who shall stand in his holy place? Those who have clean hands and pure hearts, who do not lift up their souls to what is false, and do not swear deceitfully. They will receive blessing from the LORD, and vindication from the God of their salvation. Such is the company of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Lift up your heads, O gates! and be lifted up, O ancient doors! that the King of glory may come in. Who is the King of glory? The LORD, strong and mighty, The LORD, mighty in battle Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory.

We express our sympathy to June Weesies and her family in the death of Don and pray for comfort.

I want to express our sincere thanks to the congregation for support during our recent hospitalizations and the passing of my wife Bonnie. There were many offers of concern, prayers, meals, and assistance. We could feel your love. We also express special thanks to Pastor Noah McLaren for his assistance and excellence conducting the funeral service. Ralph Veldboom

Paul and Linda La Maire would like to thank the congregation for all the cards, letters, calls, food and prayers offered in sympathy following the death of their son Jonathan. It was greatly appreciated and comforting to feel the love of God’s people during this very difficult time.

Is your child attending a Christian camp this summer? If so, there is a fund available to any family, to offset the cost of camp. If you are interested, contact the office with any questions and to access the form requesting the funds.

A group has been formed and has an acronym for it’s name. S.W.A.N.’s. which stands for Single Women Aging Nicely (at least that is our hope) It will feature varies events that we can enjoy together. Our next event will be at the Lilly House in Spring Lake at 3 PM on June Wed. June 9. We will have tea, cake and a tour. Any questions about the group feel free to call Ione 616-502-8477 or email me at Ione.lloydh@gmail .com

Call to Confession: He is righteous and good; the King of Glory! It is only through Jesus that we have life and faith and hope; So it is right that we could call him our Fount of Every Blessing. *Sing: “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” ........................ Lift Up Your Hearts #521 Prayer of Confession God, you are the Father of all nations, and the rightful King of kings. Everything that is good in this world comes from your Spirit and by your hand: from you alone. You bring peace to those in turmoil, and shalom to warring nations. You bring justice to the oppressed, and safety to those in danger. We do not. Forgive us for our misplaced allegiances: for placing hope in nations and princes, instead of the one who raised them up; And forgive us for the way we act in our shortsightedness: as if we held tomorrow, and like we have the perfect plan. Give us instead the humility, patience, and wisdom to wait for your intervention– and to recognize your work. When we cooperate with your Spirit and your hand, only then will we truly share in the Kingdom-bringing work to which you’ve called us. We believe in you, Holy and Triune God, and we trust you with our lives, and we long to see your work be finished. Through Jesus Christ, our only True King, amen Words of Assurance: “Do you not realize that God’s kindness is meant to lead us to repentance?”–Romans 2:4 *Song of Assurance: “I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light” ....................... GOD SPEAKS TO US

Prayer for Illumination

Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 8:4-11, 16-20 4Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah,5and said to him, “You are old and your sons do not follow in your ways; appoint for us, then, a king to govern us, like othernations.”6But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to govern us.” Samuel prayed to theLORD,7and the LORD said to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them. 8Just as they have done to me, from the day I brought them up out of Egypt to this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so also they are doing to you.9Now then, listen to their voice; only—you shall solemnly warn them, and show them the ways of the king who shall reign over them.” 10So Samuel reported all the words of the LORD to the people who were asking him for a king.11He said, “These will be the ways of the king who will reign over you: he will take your sons and appoint them to his chariots and to be his horsemen, and to run before his chariots;16He will take your male and female slaves, and the best of your cattle and donkeys, and put them to his work.17He will take one-tenth of your flocks, and you shall be his slaves.18And in that day you will cry out because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves; but the LORD will not answer you in that day. 19But the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel; they said, “No! but we are determined to have a king over us,20so that we also may be like other nations, and that our king may govern us and go out before us and fight our battles.”
