Planning Your AC Transit TripThere are four ways to plan your AC Transit trip:• Use online trip-planning tools at

actransit.org, 511.org, or onGoogle Transit atgoogle.com/transit.

• View maps and schedules on ourweb site at actransit.org.

Using Real-Time DeparturesReal-Time Departure information lets youknow when the next bus will be at yourstop, so you don't have to wait longerthan you need to. You can access Real-Time Departures on the web, by phoneor text message, or on electronic signs atselect bus stops. Download an app viathe Real-Time icon on your smart phoneor tablet at actransit.org. Each bus stophas a Stop ID numberthat you can referencewhen you phone ortext. Look for the StopID number on mostbus stop pole signs oron the web. Visitactransit.org/realtimefor more info.

Printed Maps & SchedulesWe publish two system maps thattogether cover the AC Transit servicearea: San Pablo to Oakland, and SanLeandro to Fremont. We also publishindividual pocket schedules with aroute map for each bus line. Getprinted materials at the UC BerkeleyParking & Transportation Office at1995 University Ave., Ste. 110.

Using Pocket SchedulesMost pocket schedules list several ofthe bus stops along the route, with thetimes the bus is expected to arrive ateach stop. These stops are called “timepoints.” There are usually additionalbus stops between the time points. Justfind the time point closest to where you

are starting your AC Transit trip andread down the column under the timepoint in order to find the time youneed to be at the bus stop.

Boarding the BusBus stops are marked with the AC Transitlogo and display the bus lines that stopthere. Most bus lines have stops everyfew blocks. Make sure you are on thecorrect side of the street for yourdirection of travel. Wait for the bus asclose aspossible tothe bus stoppole to makeit easier forthe busoperator tosee you.

You don’t have to signal the bus, butdoing so will help ensure that theoperator doesn’t miss you by mistake.When the bus arrives, check the linenumber or letter to make sure it’s the busyou want.

Stopping the BusRequest your stop by pulling the cord,pressing the button on the pole, orpressing the button above your head.The “Stop Requested” sign will light. Ifyou are not sure when your stop willbe coming up, ask the operator to letyou know.

AccessibilityAll AC Transit buses have built-in fea-tures—passenger lifts, ramps,handrails, and kneelers—that make iteasier for seniors and persons withdisabilities to ride. Priority seating isclearly marked on every bus with signsabove or near the seats. If you are asenior or a person with a disability,you may ask the operator to remindnon-disabled passengers to vacate aseat for you.

Bringing Your BicycleAll AC Transit buses have a rack onthe front for two or three bikes. Youmay load a bicycle at any time of day,with no extra fare or permit. Cyclistsmust load and unload their own bikes.

EasyPass Destinations MapOn the back of this guide, you will finda handy map of restaurants, shopping

districts, BART stations, andentertainment options that you can getto by using your EasyPass on bus linesthat travel near campus. AC Transitcan get you nearly anywhere a carcan, without the parking hassles orexpense! Hop on board any line andbegin a new adventure.
