• Reading and Literary Analysis (these are two separate standards)
• Writing Process & Writing Applications• Communication (NEW!)• Science• Social Studies• Math

How do we implement the
Reading Standards?Through various lesson from
our Trade Book, as well as….• Shared Reading - The
teacher models what a skilled reader does with text such as print concepts, strategies, and comprehension. The students engage with the particular text over a series of repeated readings for a variety of purposes.
• Read Aloud- reading aloud to students in order to foster their love of reading and to expose students to a variety of story structures, genres and authors.
• Guided Reading Students work in small groups based on instructional level in which they: – develop print concepts– use of cuing systems– Comprehension– Vocabulary
development

How Do we Implement the Writing Standards?
Through Lessons and Strategies of:• Modeled Writing• Shared Writing• Interactive Writing• Writer’s Workshop
![Page 17: WELCOME ! Before we get started here is a brief background about Mrs. Kelley and Mrs. Mallaghan](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062516/56649ddd5503460f94ad5da7/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Modeled WritingStudents observe the
teacher writing rather than contribute or collaborate during this experience.
Teacher models strategies, techniques, conventions, writing process, language or form by thinking aloud as she writes.
![Page 18: WELCOME ! Before we get started here is a brief background about Mrs. Kelley and Mrs. Mallaghan](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062516/56649ddd5503460f94ad5da7/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
Shared Writing• Teachers and students collaborate to
create a piece of writing with the teacher holding the pen and the students contributing ideas. Examples of shared writing include the following:
• Language skills in context of written piece.
• Story innovation• * graphic organizers• Story planning * retellings
![Page 19: WELCOME ! Before we get started here is a brief background about Mrs. Kelley and Mrs. Mallaghan](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062516/56649ddd5503460f94ad5da7/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
Interactive WritingTeachers and student collaborate to
create a piece of writing with the teacher and the student sharing the pen (a form of shared writing).
Students contribute ideas during this writing experience.

Introduction
• By the first grade, children have acquired a wide range of mathematics understanding.
• Their level of knowledge is enhanced by constructing, modifying and integrating ideas through interacting with their physical world.
![Page 24: WELCOME ! Before we get started here is a brief background about Mrs. Kelley and Mrs. Mallaghan](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062516/56649ddd5503460f94ad5da7/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
AnchorsThe Florida Standards-Based Mathematics Program
• Anchors was developed to provide lessons that teach Hillsborough County Expectations.
• Anchors provides best practices in mathematics education.
• Games that incorporate mathematical terms help to provide concrete models and help students develop number sense.
• Lesson flow as follows: * Instruction* Practice* Problem solving* Connections
![Page 25: WELCOME ! Before we get started here is a brief background about Mrs. Kelley and Mrs. Mallaghan](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022062516/56649ddd5503460f94ad5da7/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
Excursions
• Excursions lessons link literature to mathematics.
• Excursions lessons are designed to provide interactive, contextual, hands-on experiences.
• Excursions lessons often focus on concrete level and applications.

Flat Stanley
Flat Stanely is a character from the story Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown.
Students make paper Flat Stanley's and begin a journal with him for a few days. Then Flat Stanley and the journal are sent to other schools and/or families where students there treat Flat Stanley as a guest and complete the journal. He travels all around the world and each time we map where he has visited. This incorporates many elements of our Sunshine State Standards.
