A Word From Your Pastorh Sund6, 2018 - Sixth

Eastertide greetings and prayers dear brothers and sisters in Christ. Welcome to our liturgical celebration of the Sixth Sunday of Easter.

Today, May 6, Bishop Parkes will be consecrating our diocese to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. “May Mary’s example of trust and faithfulness be our strength, our light and our guide” said Bishop Parkes. As previously announced, he invites everyone to the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle to take part in this special celebration which will begin at 3:00 PM. Please note, this is a Holy Hour with Eucharistic Adoration; not a Mass. The Cathedral is located at 5815 5th Ave N, St. Petersburg. If you cannot attend in person, Bishop Parkes encourages you to watch via live stream at http://www.dosp.org/heartofmary Once there, click on the live video stream. Following are some Q&A’s (Questions & An-swers) provided by the Bishop’s Office: Why is the consecration on May 6? - We celebrate the gift of our mothers in the month of May and we also thank God for the gift of the Blessed Mother. The Catholic Church honors the Blessed Virgin Mary throughout the year, but dedi-cates May to her in honor of her role as the mother of Jesus and of those in Heaven and on Earth. She mothers every-one like a true mother, and she is the model for those who want to be faithful followers of Christ. May 6 is the first Sun-day in May and a perfect opportunity for a consecration to her Immaculate Heart. What is consecration? - Consecration means “to make holy.” God alone is holy, and only he can “make holy.” When one makes an act of consecration, it is always made ultimately to God with the understanding that our consecration is a serious commitment on our part to respond faithfully to God’s grace at work in our lives. Is this an individual consecration or the consecration of the diocese as a whole? - Bishop Parkes will make the act of consecration of the Diocese of St. Petersburg to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, as Our Lady of Fatima asked, and he invites all Catholics to also consecrate themselves at the same time. What happens after the consecration? - “The act of entrusting ourselves to the Heart of Our Lady establishes a rela-tionship of love with her in which we dedicate to her all that we have and are,” says Saint John Paul II. “This consecration is practiced essentially by a life of grace, of purity, of prayer, of penance that is joined to the fulfillment of all the duties of a Christian, and of reparation for our sins and the sins of the world” (Sept. 26, 1986). Ascension of the Lord - If you are looking at a Liturgical Calendar for this upcoming week, you will see the Ascension of the Lord listed on Thursday, May 10, 2018. Be reminded that in our Diocese, as well as many other dioceses, this Holy Day is transferred to Sunday. So, the Ascension of the Lord will be celebrated next Sunday, May 13. Remember, too, that Mother’s Day is next Sunday, Wishing all a week filled with God, His Hope, Peace, Love, Grace and Mercy. As I keep you and your loved ones – and all those you hold near and dear - in my prayers, please remember our parish family, clergy and staff in yours. Thank you for being a part of this great parish family of St. Luke the Evangelist. You are a blessing and I am grateful for your pres-ence and all you do for our church. God bless you.

~Father Paul

LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK "Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love." So many people hunger for love. All of us desire to be

intimately connected with others, God, and our world. Many things can work against this and cause us to feel alienated and even profoundly sad. Pope Francis tells us that our "infinite sadness can only be cured by an infinite love." We have been touched by God's love. We are called to bring that love to others so that their sadness and wounds can be healed. We must do this even for those we do not particularly like or who have hurt us. We cannot let anything stand in the way

of love.

Consecration of the Diocese of St. Petersburg to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Save the Date ! Sunday, May 6. 2:30pm.

Join us in a live streaming event from the Cathedral of St Jude The Apostle as Bishop Parkes consecrates the Diocese and those who have completed the "33 Days to Morning Glory" pro-

gram to Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary during a special Holy Hour. Gather at 2:30 in the Assembly Room in the Ministries Building. Streaming will begin at 3pm.

Sharing the Gospel - I would be really happy, if only I was ? rich ? popular ? better looking ? the boss. Those self-ish wishes sound great, but they cannot give you true hap-piness inside. Jesus shares the three secrets to his com-plete happiness: (1) Jesus obeyed God; (2) Jesus knew God loved him; (3) Jesus loved other people enough to die for them. Wow. Jesus was completely happy, but he was not selfish at all. In fact, Jesus told his friends if they fol-lowed his loving example, they could be completely happy too. Follow Jesus to be filled with happiness from the inside out

Pray– God, on my own I am selfish. Thank you for loving me. Help me to obey you. Help me to love other people as much as Jesus does. Mission of the week— Read John 15:9-17 with your family. God loves you, and he wants you to be completely happy, but you need to let go of your selfishness. You can obey God and love others by sharing your time with them. You can show your love for God by sharing your money with others, too. Jesus.
