STEP 2

Prepare iPad and TouchBistro for Setup

You will need to connect your iPad to Wi-Fi and the Internet for Step 2 to download the TouchBistro and AirPort Utility apps.

Setup Your iPad and Business’s Apple ID

1. Power on your iPad and set it up as a new iPad.

2. Create an Apple ID specifically for your business. Create an Apple ID at https://appleid.apple.com/account.

Note: It’s recommended you not use your personal Apple ID or the Apple ID of an employee. Using a personal Apple ID exposes your personal activity to other users of the iPad. As well, it does not allow you to transfer your ID to a business partner.

Install AirPort Utility on Your iPad

3. Visit the Apple App Store. Search for the app AirPort Utility. Download it. This is a free utility.

Download and Setup TouchBistro

4. Download the TouchBistro point of sale system app from the Apple App Store.

Note: Do not download the TouchBistro Kitchen

Display or Customer Facing Display app.

5. Open TouchBistro: • Tap Setup New Restaurant. • Tap New Restaurant. • Accept the Terms of Service.

Complete Your Restaurant Profile.

6. Complete your restaurant profile.

Tap Create Restaurant.

7. Tap Register and Register again. Accept the Terms of Service.

8. Enter an account name, password, and accurate contact details for TouchBistro’s billing department. We suggest the Account Name uses your restaurant name, all one word with no capitals.

9. Tap Register Now and follow the on-screen prompts.

Note: Write down that your default Admin Code is 1234. Write down the Account Name and Password that you created. You can use the inside cover page to record information you need to retain and reference in the future.

STEP 3

Setup Your AirPort Extreme and iPad

Power Up

1. Plug the power cable into your AirPort Extreme and plug it into an electrical socket.

2. On the front of the AirPort Extreme, ensure it has an orange light.

Enable Wi-Fi and Connect to Your AirPort Extreme

1. Open your iPad’s Settings | Wi-Fi screen. If Wi-Fi is not enabled, enable it.

2. If you are connected to another Wi-Fi network, tap the Information icon next to the connected network and forget the network.

3. Look for your AirPort Extreme under Set Up New Airport Base Station. It may take a minute or two for your iPad to locate your new Airport Extreme. When it appears, tap it. Your iPad will take a minute or two to gather information.

NOTE: If you are already using an Airport Extreme or Express at your venue, the new Airport Extreme will prompt you to join the network. Do not join the network.

4. Next to Network, enter a new network name.

Note: We suggest you name your network and device after your venue with “TB” at the end.

5. Enter your network password and verify. Your password must be at least 8 characters.

6. Tap Next.

7. Save the password.

8. Ignore the warning about waiting for an Ethernet cable to be plugged in. Tap Next.

9. Ignore the warning about no Internet connection. Tap Continue Anyway.

10. When prompted to send diagnostic information, tap Don’t Send and tap Next.

11. Wait until your iPad prompts you Setup

Complete. Tap Done.

Configure Your AirPort Extreme

1. Access the AirPort Utility app on your iPad. Wait until your AirPort Utility auto detects your AirPort Extreme. It could take a minute or two for AirPort Utility to find your AirPort.

2. Wait until you get an orange indicator under the Airport Extreme icon and then tap the icon.

3. Tap Status Messages.

3

Page 7: Welcome [cdn.touchbistro.com]cdn.touchbistro.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/OneBox... · 2020-05-22 · Model: Star Micronics® TSP143 LAN (Specific model # found on box and under

4. Swipe to ignore the first message.

5. AirPort Utility will report it’s updating your router. It takes a minute or two for the router to update itself.

6. Wait until you’re returned to the details menu. You will see you have 2 remaining status messages to deal with. Tap Status Messages again.

7. The first message you ignored will be at the bottom. Now slide to ignore the message at the top.

8. Again AirPort Utility will take a minute or two to update your Airport Extreme.

9. After updating, you will see you have one remaining status message to deal with. Tap Status Messages again.

10. The first message and second you ignored will be at the bottom. Now slide to ignore the message at top.

11. Again AirPort Utility will take a minute or two to update and then return you to the details menu with no status messages waiting.

12. Ensure you have a green light on your AirPort Extreme (both the hardware and a green indicator on AirPort Utility). This could take a minute or two. When you get both green indicators, you have now established a Wi-Fi connection between your iPad and the AirPort Extreme.

Connect Your AirPort Extreme to the Internet (Mandatory for Integrated Payment Processing and Cloud Reporting)

1. If you have signed up with an integrated payment processor, you need to have Internet access. You can now connect your AirPort Extreme to the modem provided by your Internet service provider. Connect your Airport Extreme to the modem by running an Ethernet cable between your AirPort’s WAN port (the port on the bottom of the Airport) and the WAN port on the modem provided by your ISP.

STEP 4

Setup Your Printer(s)

Thermal Receipt Printer Hardware Setup

1. Plug in your thermal receipt printer and load it with paper (don’t forget to close the lid after loading it with paper):

4

Note: Do not try to setup your payment processor at this time. Wait until step 6.

For more information on setting up an integrated payment processor, see TouchBistro.com/OneBox.

Page 8: Welcome [cdn.touchbistro.com]cdn.touchbistro.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/OneBox... · 2020-05-22 · Model: Star Micronics® TSP143 LAN (Specific model # found on box and under

• Plug in your printer’s power cord into the back of the printer and then into an electrical socket.

• Do not turn your printer on yet.

2. Connect your thermal receipt printer

• Plug the Ethernet cable provided with the printer into the Ethernet port on your printer.

• Plug your Ethernet cable into your AirPort Extreme. Plug it into the port with double arrows. Do not plug it into the WAN port. That port is used to connect to your Internet modem.

4. Ignore the first print out. The second print out has the printer’s IP address. Keep this paper handy. You will need it shortly.

Setup Your Thermal Receipt Printer in TouchBistro

1. Tap your iPad’s Home button and launch TouchBistro.

2. Login as an admin (your passcode is 1234).

3. Tap Admin in the top right.

4. Tap Admin Settings.

5. Tap Printers & KDS.

6. Tap Receipt. (If you’re repeating this step to set up your kitchen printer, tap Kitchen this time.)

7. In the Printer IP field, enter 10.0.1.201.

Note: If you add an additional printer later, increment the final portion of the IP address by 1 for the new printer. For example, if later you add a kitchen printer, enter 10.0.1.202 for the kitchen printer. It’s important to not duplicate an IP address or enter an IP address less than 201.

8. Under Printer Model, ensure your printer is selected, that is a checkmark appears next to it. If you are setting up your receipt printer, the default selection Star Micronics Thermal (TSP113L/TSP143L/TSP600 II) is the correct selection. You can leave this as selected.

Note: If you’re repeating these steps to setup your kitchen impact printer, select Star Micronics Impact – Epson Mode.

5

3. Get your thermal printer’s current IP:

• Hold down the printer’s feed button and then power it on. Keep the feed button depressed until you hear your printer make a noise. Release the feed button. It prints two papers.

2. Plug the other end of the RJ12 cable into the thermal receipt printer’s port. Double check the cable end is labeled “PRINTER”.

9. Tap Program Printer.

10. In the Current IP field, enter the IP from the printer print out (found under Current IP Parameters Status). Only enter the number portion. Do not enter (DHCP) or (STATIC).

11. Tap Begin Setup.

12. Tap Ok and Close.

13. Wait until the light on the printer goes green.

14. Tap Print Test Page. Ensure a test print out comes out of the printer. Tap Done.

Connect Your Kitchen Impact Printer (if applicable)

1. If you have a kitchen impact printer, repeat the steps you followed in Step 4 setting up your thermal printer. Your impact printer also needs some additional changes to the physical hardware, changing a dip switch to put it into Epson mode. For this procedure see TouchBistro.com/OneBox for help in setting up your impact printer for Epson mode.

STEP 5

Setup Your Cash Drawer

1. Your cash drawer may already have the RJ12 cable plugged into the cash drawer port. If not, plug the end labeled “CASH DRAWER” into the cash drawer port on the back of the cash. You might also need to remove the back cover with a screwdriver to access the cash drawer port.

Note: Use the provided RJ12 cable for your cash drawer. Do not confuse it for a standard phone cable or Ethernet cable.

STEP 6

Configure Key Areas of TouchBistro

Your hardware set up is now complete. Launch TouchBistro and access the TouchBistro Admin Settings (see step Step 4 for how to access the Admin Settings page). You can set up your restaurant via the admin section. Step 6 gives you a brief overview of key areas you should set up. 2. Tap the icon to add one or more Staff profiles for sales (counter or tableside) and a Manager profile for managerial duties like end of day, void approvals, and closing out your end of day.

Note: Don’t use the Admin profile except when you need access to the Admin section to make changes to TouchBistro. Do not use your Admin or Manager profile for sales (tableside or counter mode).
