SOPHIE CHOUDRY MUMBAI - Suzuki Motor Corporation's Indian subsidiary Maruti Suzuki India Limited has launched the all-new Dzire compact sedan in India recently. Dzire is one of the main models of Maruti Suzuki. It is India's largest selling sedan with accumulated sales of approximately 1.4 million units in India. The all-new Dzire shares the same new HEARTECT platform as those adopted for the all-new Swift, which is being sold in Japan, Europe, and other countries from 2017. Thanks to its lightweight and high-rigidity body, it strikes a balance between running per formance and fuel-efficiency, while meeting safety regulations that are scheduled to be introduced in India. The wide grille combined with the chrome accents, accentuates this wide stance and the LED headlamps and daytime running lights add to the design up front, making it look very current! The car also gets a set of 15-inch wheels; steel ones on the lower variants and diamond cut alloys on the higher spec. The exterior design realises sedan-like flowing silhouette, while enhancing user-friendliness of a sedan by securing large rear leg and luggage space. OTTAWA - Sales in the GTA housing market over the past few months appear to be mirroring trends in the GVA during its period of orderly decline in 2016. While the impact of policy measures - including those recently implemented by the Ontario government - tend to be temporary, prospects for a gradual rise in borrowing rates later this year and in 2018 are likely to mitigate against a renewed run-up. In a recent report, TD Economics highlighted that the GTA housing market has become too hot for comfort and that speculation was increasingly driving unsustainable home price gains. The provincial government stepped in with a 16-measure Fair Housing Plan in April to help cool the market, which included the tracking of citizenship on purchases, a non resident tax, a vacant land and property tax and finally the expansion of rent control. The market has shifted from tight to balanced fairly quickly, which will likely bring home price growth down sharply. The average home price is now on track for a 12% gain this year, or somewhat lower than the 15% we were anticipating in April. Average prices in the GTA are also on track for a 4% decline next year, largely in line with the 3% decline expected in the Greater Vancouver Area (GVA) this year. Canada rate hikes are likely to feed into higher long-term yields later this year. The 5-year government bond yield is expected to rise 40 basis points later this year, some of which will feed into higher mort- gage rates (Chart 2). By the time the GTA is ready to shake off policy changes later this year, interest rates are expected to be higher. Given lofty home prices, and weak household income growth (below 2% in 2015), the GTA and Vancouver are the most sensitive markets to higher mortgage rates. As rates rise, GTA home sales are expected to remain near longer-term trend levels, while sales in Vancouver are likely to retrace gains made earlier this year. 'GOOD' FAT DIET MAY REDUCE BOWEL DISEASE SYMPTOM NEW YORK, (IANS) A "good" high fat diet may lead to specific changes in gut bacteria that could fight harmful inflammation and reduce symptoms of Crohn's disease, a chronic inflam- matory bowel disorder, says a new study. Crohn's disease causes debilitating intestinal swelling, cramping and diar- rhoea. In the new study, a diet of plant-derived "good" fats, including coconut oil or cocoa butter, drastically reduced bac- terial diversity in mice with Crohn's-like disease. Mice fed beneficial fatty diets had up to thirty per cent fewer kinds of gut bacteria as those fed a normal diet, collectively resulting in a very different gut microbial composition. Some of the species changes showed up in faeces, while others were different in cecum, a portion of the intestine commonly in- flamed in Crohn's disease. Mice fed even low concentrations of coconut oil or cocoa butter also had less severe small intestine inflammation, according to the findings presented at the annual Digestive Disease Week conference in Chicago.

TIPS ON GETTING THERIGHT VANITY KIT, TABLENEW DELHI, (IANS) Create your own dream vanity kitand table with handy products like a small magnifyingmirror, suggest exper ts. Neha Chopra, an interior de-signer from UrbanClap, and Nelofar Currimbhoy, Presi-dent of Shahnaz group of companies, share some tips:* Space: If space is a constraint, rule out tri-fold mirrorsand full wall vanities. Consider vanities with folding stor-age or vanities with full-length mirror cabinets. The lat-ter has the added advantage of being easy to move aroundthe house as needed.* Lighting: Since make-up is all about playing with howthe light falls on your face, bright lighting is necessary tomake the best use of your vanity. For this reason, most peopletend to have separate lights just for their vanity. The popular optionsinclude mirrors with bulbs and on table lamps. An eco-nomical option for lighting the vanity would be to sur-round it with fairy lights of the right voltage.* Material: Choose the material of your vanity on thebasis of where you plan to place it. A wooden vanitywould look gorgeous but it would limit the vanity's life toplace it in the bathroom or near the window. Also, purewood vanities might prove to be a little hard on the pocket.* Magnify and light up: A small magnifying mirror with a daylight bulb is a valuable addition to your dresser. If you use artificiallight you would be surprised how different the shades can look instark sunlight. The magnified glass is excellent to spot stray growthof hair or the slightest smudge of your lipstick.

Summer beauty tips for womenNEW DELHI, (IANS) This summer create your own beauty hackswith the help of expert beauticians. Here are some to follow:* Make up and magic: Loose powder, compacts in two shadesfor contouring; my preference is for the newly developed moistcompact since its so much more natural. A concealer too canhide the sudden burst of spots for highlighters are perfect forcreating a perfect base; a perfect canvas for make up.* Luscious lips: Lip colours from pastels for the day and deepbrowns and burgundy for the night, orange for the adventurousday, lip gloss and glitter need to be part of the lips section onyour vanity.* Eyeing it: Eye make-up is the most vital part of a collection.Acquire a very good natural kajal, an eye definition pencil, andeyeliner in several shades. Electric blue and emerald shadeslook amazing.* Hair waves: Keep a set of brushes, electric curlers and hairirons. It will give the option to go poker straight, curly or crimpand wear a frizzy look. Dry shampoo: Try using this new in-vention. Spray it on all over the hair, finger brush it through. Itgets rid of all the excess oil that weighs down your hair.* Important accessories: A perfect vanity table should have a highquality tweezer, brow trimming scissor, make-up sponges, make-upbrushes, nail files remover and nail colours. Anti-rash cream, mild antiseptic lotion for facial skin suitable for any nicks andpaper towels and cotton balls also are must haves.

OLDER FATHERS MAY HAVE 'GEEKIER' SONSLONDON, (IANS) Sons of older fathers are more intelligent, morefocused on their interests and less concerned about fitting in, all char-acteristics typically seen in 'geeks', suggests new research. Whileprevious research linked older paternal age to risk of autism andschizophrenia, this study published in Translational Psychiatry sug-gests that children of older fathers may also have cer tain advantagesover their peers in educational and career settings. "We have knownfor a while about the negative consequences of advanced paternalage, but now we have shown that these children may also go on tohave better educational and career prospects," said MagdalenaJanecka from King's College London. The researchers collectedbehavioural and cognitive data from Britain's 15,000 twin pairs in theTwins Early Development Study (TEDS). When the twins were 12

years old, they completed online tests that measured 'geek-like' traits, including non-verbal IQ, strong focus on the subject of interest andlevels of social aloofness. Using this information, the researcherscomputed a 'geek index' for every child in the study and higher geekindex scores were repor ted in the sons of older fathers. In addition, they found that 'geekier' children do better in school exams, par ticu-larly in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathemat-ics) subjects. These results also have implications for understandinglinks between higher paternal age, autism and characteristics typi-cally seen in 'geeks'. The researchers think that some of the genes for 'geekiness'and for autism are overlapping, and that those genes are more likely to be presentin older fathers. 'When the child is born only with some of those genes, they may bemore likely to succeed in school.

African plant extract couldtreat Alzheimer's diseaseLONDON, (IANS) Raising hope for a novel treatment forAlzheimer's disease, researchers have found that a plantextract used for centuries in traditional medicine in Nigeriacould form the basis of a new drug to treat the progressivebrain disorder that impairs memory. The study, published inthe journal Pharmaceutical Biology, has shown that the ex-tract taken from the leaves, stem and roots of Carpolobialutea could help to protect chemical messengers in the brainwhich play a vital role in functions, including memory andlearning. The tree extract could pave the way for new drugsto tackle patient symptoms but without the unwanted side-effects associated with some current treatments, the studysaid. "As a population we are living longer, and the numberof people with dementia is growing at an alarming rate. Ourfindings suggest that traditional medicines will provide newchemicals able to temper Alzheimer's disease progression,"said lead researcher Wayne Car ter from University ofNottingham in Britain. Carpolobia lutea, known more com-monly as cattle stick, is a small shrub found native to Cen-tral and West Africa. Herbalists in Nigerian tribes use theessence of the root as an aphrodisiac and the treatment ofgenitourinary infections, gingivitis, and waist pains. In pa-tients with Alzheimer's disease and other diseases such asParkinson's disease and myasthenia gravis, the activity ofthe neurotransmitter acetylcholine is reduced, leading toproblems with memory and attention. The researchers foundthat the Carpolobia lutea plant was highly effective in pre-venting the breakdown of acetylcholine and also had other benefi-cial antioxidant properties in fighting free radicals - the unstable atomsthat can cause damage to cells and contribute to ageing anddisease, that may be exacerbated in Alzheimer's disease.

Late bedtime linked to less control over OCD symptomsNEW YORK, (IANS) People who go to bed late appear to have lesscontrol over their obsessive thoughts, according to results of a smallstudy. "That we find that there are specific negative consequences of sleepingat the wrong times, that's something to educate the public about," said MeredithColes, Professor of Psychology at Binghamton University, State University of NewYork. The researchers monitored 20 individuals diagnosed with Obsessive-Com-pulsive Disorder (OCD) - a common chronic disorder that leads to repetitivebehaviour - and 10 individuals with OCD-like symptoms during one week of sleep.Participants completed sleep diaries and daily ratings of perceived degree ofcontrol over obsessive thoughts and ritualised behaviours. The researchers found that previous night's bedtime significantly predicted partici-

pants' perceived ability to control their obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviouron the subsequent day. "We're really interested in how this kind of unusual timingof sleep might affect cognitive functioning," said Jessica Schubert from Universityof Michigan Medical School. "One possibility is impulse control. It might be that something about shifting the timing of your sleep might reduce yourability to control your thoughts and your behaviours," Schuber t said."So it might make it more likely that you're going to have a hard timedismissing intrusive thoughts characteristic of obsessions, and itmight make it more difficult for you to refrain from compulsivebehaviours that are designed to reduce the anxiety caused by obses-sive thoughts," Schuber t added.
