Dear New Member:I am pleased to welcome you as a new member and owner of Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC). Being a member of one of the most progressive Cooperatives in the country, you now have the opportunity to participate in its governance and share in its success.

Your Cooperative has a proud history of providing reliable electric service to rural areas throughout Virginia that

were once considered too costly to be profitable. Today, even as many of those communities have grown to be regarded as suburban, we remain committed to providing reliable electricity. For over 75 years, REC has built its reputation on four core values:

Service: Our goal – that your electricity is available 100 percent of the time – is our priority; however, should weather conditions or other circumstances make outages unavoidable, our rapid response system gets your power back on as soon as possible.

Integrity: We endeavor to be honest and straightforward in all transactions. We strive to have our actions match our words and to deliver genuine value to members like you.

Respect: We honor each person as a unique individual. We also recognize our responsibility to be ever mindful of the impact our actions will have not only today, but tomorrow as well.

Caring: We go to extraordinary lengths to meet or exceed your expectations, because we genuinely care about you.

We are dedicated to providing you service excellence, competitive rates and the value of Cooperative membership. Our friendly, knowledgeable employees are always prepared to assist you. We are delighted that you are a member of REC and look forward to bringing you the benefits of your Cooperative membership.

Sincerely,

Kent D. FarmerPresident and Chief Executive Officer

About Us

REC is a not-for-profit, member-owned utility providing electricity to over 165,000 connections in portions of 22 Virginia counties. The Cooperative is guided by a member-elected Board of Directors.

Being an REC member means you are an owner of the company and share in our success. We work hard every day to keep your rates as low as possible and to ensure your needs are always met. Because we are not-for-profit, when there is money left over after paying all expenses involved in providing safe and reliable electric service, your share of that money is assigned to you in the form of Capital Credits. Our success is your success.

MISSION STATEMENT

To enhance the lives of the members and communities we serve by providing safe, reliable and affordable electric service

as good stewards of the environment.

service: providing reliable electricity and quality products

Each month your electric bill is sent a few days after the meter is read. There are approximately 30 days in each billing cycle, but this may vary depending upon the number of days in the month.

See the back of your bill for a list of all of your payment options. To avoid late fees, always pay your electric bill by the due date.

Your Electric MeterResidential electric meters are automatically read each month through a remote meter reading system. Periodically, REC will physically read your meter to ensure accuracy and to inspect the Cooperative’s facilities serving your property. For safety reasons, meters must be easily accessible to REC personnel.

Scheduled MaintenanceREC maintains a regular schedule for tree trimming and managing the rights of way beneath overhead power lines. Right-of-way work is performed by REC personnel, as well as by contractors hired by REC. Your cooperation with this necessary and important work benefits many and is greatly appreciated.

Stay Safe Remember—electricity can be dangerous. Look up for power lines around your home, call 811 before any digging project, and stay away from downed power lines.

Community Support

As a cooperative, REC is committed to the communities we serve. Every year we award scholarships and grants, as well as participate in over 200 events throughout our service territory, sharing information about electric safety, energy efficiency and more. Learn about how we support our communities at www.myrec.coop/community.

The Power of Change

Each month, thousands of Rappahannock Electric Cooperative members give voluntarily to The Power of Change. Gifts can be a set monthly amount, a one-time donation, or members can round up their bill to the next whole dollar. These funds are invested back into the community so we have a better place to live, work, and play.
