UAgriculture played a major role in shaping Egypt’s past and present.

Egypt is one of the oldest farming civilizations in the world, and since PharaonicTimes we

have been specialized inagricultural activities that established over 5000 years ago based

around the Nile River.

For Over 5000 year Egyptian farmers formed cultivated civilization based on the Nile River

and the surrounding lands. It was one of the earliest civilizations that had a profound

influence on the region. Agriculture created most of Egypt's wealth Such as: grains,

vegetables, fruits. And it provided a good environment for animal domestication such as:

cattle, goats, and birds.

Based on this historical account and present day efforts and limitations I may present

that Egypt Future Depends on Agriculture.

Agriculture is a major economic issue in Egypt. It is an issue as a local food source, for

international trade, for balance of payments, land use and water use and as a basic product

for food and fiber manufacturing. Hence every aspect of the economic structure of the

country relates to agriculture. Banking, transportation, tax and tariff structure, subsidies,

local and international markets and health are all part of the agricultural system of a country.

Not to mention politics, of course.

With population of around 85 million people, the agriculture and agriculture related activities

employ around 32 % of Egypt’s labor force and make up around 14.7 % of Egypt’s GDP.

With cultivated area reaching around 9 Million Acres. So, the agricultural sector still plays a

very important role in Egypt’s economy

The birth of Industrial Agriculture

Egypt has highly productive agricultural resources. Investors starting going into the desert to reclaim new lands, thus laying the foundation of a modern export oriented agricultural sector, based on advanced know how and efficient irrigation techniques. Modern packing stations and cold stores were established. That was reflected in high quality crops.

Egypt enjoys a significant comparative advantage in the production and export of high

value horticultural products. This comparative advantage is based on a number of factors,

including favorable agro-climatic conditions, physical proximity to important markets and

counter-seasonal production capabilities. The growth in industry cohesiveness and

sophistication and an increasing awareness on the part of government toward the importance

of private sector primacy in decision-making are also important factors, besides the farming

practices employed for Egypt’s principal horticultural crops

The World is our Market, we export into 145 Countries

Egyptian agricultural goods are being sold in 145 countries. Egypt has become a player in the world’s food market.

Egyptian Agricultural Exports: Growing into the Right Direction

Egyptian agricultural exports reached 2 billion US $ season 2013/2014 where the fresh fruits represent the top agriculture export in Egypt which reached around 946 million US $. Citrus, Grapes, Pomegranate and Strawberries are the leading fruits exports.

The fresh vegetables exports come next in ranking which reached around 724 million US $. Potatoes, Onions, Tomatoes and Green Beans are the leading vegetables exports.

As for major markets, Russian Federation come in the top ranking for importing the Egyptian fresh Produce, then Saudi Arabia, England, Iraq, United Arab Emirates, Libya, Italy, Netherlands and Kuwait.

There also positive indications for the future of that product in Egypt whereas more new investments have been pumped in that sector and the direction is to establish several packing stations according to the international specifications, and especially in the European markets.

To continue this growth, we focus on variety of activitiessuch as management and technical training for the Egyptian exporters on the quality standards, delivering the international experience & technology, focus on high quality and speedy international transportation for transferring the crops to over the world on time and in quality.

Finally, The Chairman of Agricultural Export Council - AEC declared that agriculture exports of Egypt is growing steadily with a positive rate according to the set plan of the Council in harmony with the developing strategy of the Ministry of Trade and Industry and with the support of all the various state organizations.

Logistics

Logistics and Transport are key to the export operation especially that we are dealing with sensitive products that have a short shelf life.

The growth of the Potato, Citrus and Onion industry over the past years has lead to the establishment of sea shipping possibilities.

We believe however that there is still some work that needs to be done especially for Air Transport.
