The Centre for Students with Disabilities Centennial College is committed to providing the bestpossible education for all of our students. This includesmeeting the needs of students with disabilities who mayrequire adjustments or accommodations for their success.

If you have a documented learning disability, medicalor mental health condition, physical, visual, hearing ormobility impairment, we will make every reasonableeffort to accommodate your needs to meet the learningoutcomes of your program, and to provide equal access toall programs and services.

How are applicants with disabilities identified?Applicants and students with disabilities must identify themselves to the Centre for Students with Disabilities (CSD). Since high school records are not automatically forwarded to the college, students themselves must initiate contact and provide documentation.

How Do Students Register With The CSD?1. Collect the required documentation to verify

and explain your disability. Documentation may include medical information, psychoeducational assessments, report cards, and IEP’s. The documentation required depends on the nature of one’s disability, so contact us to find out what you need.

2. Contact the CSD to make an appointment with the Disabilities Counsellor at the campus where your program is held.

3. Bring your documentation to your appointment.

CSD Services Include:Ongoing: Counselling, access to accommodations, assistanceand support in self-advocacy, and developing and trainingof strategies for student success.

Adaptive Technology Labs: Each CSD has a computer lab that is equipped with specialized software and hardware to ensure access in all of your program and academic needs. Training is provided.

AIMS-LD: Academic Improvement and Monitoring Service for Students with Learning Disabilities – support of a Learning Strategist and Assistive Technologist.

START: Successful Transitions: Advocacy, Resources and Training - Transition program for new students.

What Are Accommodations?Accommodations are tools and/or academic or physicalarrangements that help students achieve success. They are based on information from assessments from a professional(such as a psychologist or medical doctor) that describe a student’s disability. The Disabilities Counsellor/Consultant, in discussion with the student, will determine the appropriate accommodations, and will provide the student with an Individual Student Profile (ISP) that outlines these accommodations to give to their instructors. Some examples of accommodations include assistive technology, extra time for tests, a tape recorder for lectures, sign language interpreter or notetaker. Courses are not modified at the post-secondary level; students are accommodated to compensate for disabilities.
