High Level Cloud Goals
• On-premises and Cloud user experience exactly the same
• Increase Speed of delivery for database component which takes the longest amongst all container deliveries
• Self service is key driver for DevOps productivity
• Better software regression testing early in the life cycle
• Storage Savings
“One of the most powerful things that organizations can do is to enable development and testing to get the environment they need when they need it.”

Why DevOps needs Data on Demand?Drawbacks of existing data refresh model, longest pole in the tent:
› On an average corporations spending over 5 times more on infrastructure for managing copy data than production data– Prod data copied to pre-prod count = 15 duplicate copies
– IT/QA/Test Data copied to Dev/CT count = 65 duplicate copies
› It takes on average – 2-3 days to refresh Pre-Prod from Prod
– and 1-2 days to refresh Component test from QA
› The time and effort it takes to refresh with all the moving parts is inefficient and error prone.
› Due to the length of time it takes to refresh an environment, in order to plan contiguous trials for on-boarding new customers; additional pre-prod environments are required adding to both the infrastructure cost and personnel costs to support trials.
› Existing model has its overhead on scrum teams, since they need to self manage structure and code changes to their Component Test environment on a daily basis.
› To allow regression testing, there is no easy and expeditious way in the current model to rollback database and re-run multiple times.

High Level Goals Translate to Specifics
Achieve Real Business Value
Oracle Multitenant Advantages
• Reduce CapEx by running more applications on a server
• Reduce OpEx by managing many as one
• Maximum Agility by providing snapshot cloning for development and test environments between on-premises and Oracle public cloud
• Applications run unchanged
Faster Time-to-Market
• Provision environments in 15– 30 Min• Reduce development cycle time by 3x• Reduce cost of setting up all env 5x
Reduce project slippage• Increase test case execution by 10x• Facilitate development to make easy changes in
code
Increase productivity and quality • Improve cross functional teamwork• Increase productivity and throughput through
the SDLC• High revenue and profit per product
SEI and Oracle MultitenantDisrupt the existing model in favor of explosive growth

Why Oracle Cloud?
› SEI has a significant 95% red Oracle stack as the foundational block
› Oracle Cloud offering roadmap the only one that currently offers
– Exadata, Exalogic (Available now)
– Data Guard (Available now)
– Real Application Clusters (DBaaS By CY 2015 RAC clusters [2, 4, 8 node] )
– Non-ASM sparse Clones (Available now)
– ASM sparse Clones (Available in Exa-DBaaS now, For non-Exa dedicated-compute CY 2016)
› Seamless Integration from on-premises to Oracle’s Cloud
– Flexibility to transparently move workloads between environments
– Enables rapidly adopt PaaS for Test-Dev, BackUp & other patterns

Oracle Technologies in Scope > Getting Data to the Cloud
› Oracle Database Backup Service (ODBS) (available on Oracle Cloud)
Oracle Database Backup Service is a secure, scalable, on-demand solution for storing Oracle Database backups in Oracle Cloud. Oracle databases are backed up to Oracle Database Backup Service using the Oracle Database Cloud Backup Module. This is foundational service such that DG & GG below make use of this service at least once for the initial setup of a replica of the on premise database.
› Data Guard (DG) (available across Hybrid Oracle Cloud)
Oracle Data Guard ensures data replication to the Cloud
and facilitates sync of Test master on premise with that on the Cloud.
This replicates the entire CDB database as a unit.
› Lift & Shift PDB (OEM) (available across Hybrid Oracle Cloud)
Copy a PDB from on-prem to Oracle Cloud vice-versa
› Golden Gate (GG) (available before CY-16)
Low-impact, real-time change data capture, distribution.
This solution has the advantage of reducing the data movement footprint to the bear essentials.

Oracle Technologies in Scope > Once in the Cloud
› Sparse CloneDB (now available on Oracle Cloud)
Copy on Write technology; Only the changes are stored for the clone. Rapid and space efficient copies. Agile provisioning (minutes to clone TB sized database) Over 90% storage savings (KBs of additional space for cloning TB sized database). Reduced administrative overhead from integrated lifecycle management. (ext4 file system)
› Non-Exadata sparse clones (CY 2016 for dedicated compute only)
Sparse clone on multi-tenant compute cannot co-locate two different compute guests to share the same filer -given the dynamic placement that happens with multi-tenant compute and also potential VM migration that is not going to be possible. Dedicated compute during CY 2016 does not have this limitation.
› Exadata Rapid Database Snapshots (now available on Oracle Cloud)
The functionality was introduced with Exadata X5. It is Exadata specific, and requires sparse ASM disk groups to hold the snapshots. This works with and without Multitenant, and requires database 12.1.0.2. The clones are created in ASM sparse disk groups. Since the clones are inside ASM disk groups, they will take advantage of Exadata storage capabilities such as query offload.
