Welcome to the 2021 edition of the Bull Rush sale. I trust after 2020 everyone is ready to move on! The cattle industry remains one of the strong points in our economy and I think as producers we should be proud of that, it goes to show the quality, and sustainability of the beef industry.

This year marks our 19th annual sale, it hard to believe that we started it 19 years ago already, 19 years just goes to show the commitment of the group to produce top notch, functional bulls for the producer. It seems every year the quality of bulls in this bull sale takes another step forward and this year it holds true once again. This year you will see Full Fleckviehs, Red Simmentals, Black Simmentals, and a couple Angus Bulls in the sale. The depth of quality of the bulls in this sale is hard to beat, and you can travel a lot of miles to find this kind of consistency and quality! Back this year you will see Stouts have a great Black purebred heifer and 2 lots of commercial heifers in the sale, so it truly is a one stop shopping experience.

We will be running our sale as close to normal as possible this year, however there will be some AHS rules that we will have to follow, one of which may be a maximum attendance in the building. We encourage everyone to give the consignors a call and stop by their farms to view the bulls! Bulls will also be available for viewing starting the afternoon of FEB 24 in Rimbey at the Agrim center. DLMS will be available to anyone who wishes to buy online, if you need help with setting that up you can give DLMS a call or contact one of the consignors. Also you may contact anyone of our sale staff to help you with your purchasing needs they are more than happy to assist you.

A very balanced bull with such a reasonable birth weight combined with some really great gains. He also has a ton of hair! These Dreamboat calves start smaller, hang with the pack during the summer/fall, but the more time that goes by they seem to develop into the keeper types you wish you had more of. A good solid young blaze faced bull here out of a very quiet dam that has been a real good producer for us. Her maternal great grand dam was RT 16C the 1993 version, that was out of the old Lynn Holb fleckvieh breeding. She was the deepest of liver red in color and possesed those wide hips and an abundance of milk. Infuse that with some Rogant breeding along with the old Antonius line and you have yourself amazing mama cows. If you need the docility trait placed deep into your herd, look no further than RT 74H. He had to be pushed into position for photos, is so very easy to handle, has a huge amount of gut capacity, and has some pretty great weight gains to round things off. For those that have come to tour through the herd bulls, they already know this young bulls sire. For those of you that are not as familiar, let me introduce to you a son of the bull we have affectionately nicknamed “Bob”. Oh Kay Dynasty 28 D is one of the deepest bodied bulls you will find, and passes on his maternal qualities to be savoured for the generations to come. A finer boned homo polled son of Dynasty that goes back to some of our high calving ease females. His dams first calf weighed in at 58 lbs at birth, and had a respectable weaning and yearling weight, was saved back as a replacement female, and caught first cycle to AI and is due in January of 2021. His maternal grand dam sired our red polled heifer bull RT 322C that was a go to for us and has since gone on to other pastures. A direct son of the Harvie Red Summit 54B bull that has some respectable growth and lower birth weight. These Red Summit calves came easily and were up and sucking quickly. The dam has always thrown polled calves, and is darker brown to red in colour with a large blaze face. There is a long production record from the cow lines he is derived from, and they have always thrown the longer types that get out and grow. If you analyze this bull from above, he is sleek and long spined, which leads one towards thinking about his ability to work in the heifer pen.

Now more than ever we want to invite any interested parties out to the farm before the sale to look over the bulls in their natural setting. As well as view the cows behind the bulls something we think is very important. Once again in 2021 we will be offering commercial heifers with one group being true F1 females, along with a black registered heifer. Weaning weights taken August 25th and Yearling Weights were done Jan 1st. As always our bulls have been slowly developed on the Country Junction Right Way beef ration pellet and fed free choice haylage. All the bulls have all been tested for diluter gene (if bred to black cows non dilutor will have no greys) , homozygous polled (homozygous polled bulls will have no horned calves) and coat colour where applicable. A little different twist on pedigree here for a red bull with the cross of Winchester and our big polled fullblood cow, Penny. We have crossed Penny on purebred red and black bulls many times with great results. We choose calving ease sires to reduce birthweights as she is a big old cow that could probably birth a baby elephant. She has put two bulls through this sale selling to Gary Shnell and Dan and Tara Nicholson, with two daughters being retained in herd. War wagon may come with a bit more birthweight but I urge you to study his smooth made shoulder and extra length of spine, top 15 percent in the breed for calving ease and an actual weaning weight of 924 on August 25th.... sounds like a money-making combination! We have only used two straws of Blaze and have gotten two good bulls out of him. Last year’s Blaze bull was purchased by Nick and Camille Jenkins and reports on the bull have been very positive. Branningan is another outcross red bull out of a half fleckvieh cow that transmits performance into her offspring. Expect Branningan to do much the same. Maybe not the most endearing picture of him as he wasn’t as cooperative in the picture pen as some but is a bull that has all the goods. John Wayne will be our first son out of our newly acquired heifer bull SKORS Bootlegger 85F, known around our place as Pudd. We only had a small sample size of the Pudd calves as we AI’d most of our commercial heifers the first cycle. The ones we do have we are very impressed with. HE calved very well and although the calves were younger and off of heifers, they weighed right up with the rest. They might not be the largest framed in the pen but believe me, these moderate framed stout calves really blew us away as we ran some across the scale. We have had good luck using Hextor on our fullblood heifers the last few years, they come easy and they get up and grow. This is Hondo to a “T’, born with a modest 88 pound birth weight and weaning off his first calf dam August 25th at 874. Not bad from a moderate first calver! In 2018 the lead off and high selling bull was a Hextor selling to Wilcooke Simmentals at Caroline, calving reports from Rocky were very strong. Hondo sports a wide top, thick, well-muscled rear quarter all wrapped up in a moderate package. This is a bull we rank very high on our list and has caught the eyes of many touring the pens. Over the years we have admired the production record of the great donor cow Kananaskis at Ferme Gagnon. She has over 30 progeny registered in the CSA herd book, many of which that have made great contribution to the breed. In the fall of 2018, we purchased these embryos along with an additional flush, I think that alone speaks volumes on how we feel about this cow. A full sister to Undefeated and Yellow Ribbon raised a $38 000 bred heifer this fall purchased by Ghanim Cattle Co. She will be walking our pastures and without a doubt you will be hearing about her in the future. In all honesty, we were hoping for heifer calves to build our own cow family around but when you get bull calves like these two you don’t complain. The consistency of the cross with Spitfire and Kananaskis has been remarkable. Ferme Gagon has flushed Kananaskis three times this way producing top males and females alike, look for these two sons to continue the trend. A little different hair coat but many of the same great qualities between them. Yellow Ribbon had a much better recip so is carrying a few extra pounds than his counterpart. These yellow bulls are becoming harder and harder to find and with how tan hided cattle are selling at the markets, you might want to dig in a little deeper on Yellow Ribbon. As mentioned Undefeated was mothered by a recip that thought he shouldn’t suck her back half and eventually went dry. Since weaning he has kept pace with the rest of the bulls and really starting to shine. Deep blood red, polled head and backed by one of the industries best. Yellow Ribbon or Undefeated, either way, you cant go wrong!

Another bull from our ET program from Justified and MS Zander, a beautiful polled cow at Elm Tree farms in Ontario that we were lucky enough to purchase a flush on .We have had two calves thus far from this mating and it has really clicked, we eagerly await to put more in this spring. We have always admired the Justified cattle for their phenotype and good performance. I would disregard True Grits weaning weight as he had a very poor recip that we eventually lost in late spring. He virtually was on his own after reaching a month of age but really took off once he was on feed. Here will be our first set of sons from Ballistic, a mature bull we were very excited to acquire from XRC Simmentals in Saskatchewan. We had admired Ballistic throughout his development at Beechinor Bros as a calf and after seeing his progeny at XRC we knew he would be an asset to our program. The Ballistic/Sue cross clicked very well and will be doing again in the future. If you study our footnotes you will know what we think of this cow family. Without a doubt our top family, they just flat out produce the good ones. Suzie, Leatherneck’s great grandam will enter our donor pen this spring at 15 years old still boosting perfect feet and a good udder. Simply Sue has followed the trend, producing calves for Beechinor Land and Livestock and Tyler and Karen Pletz on her first two tries. Big Trail, the younger of the two Ballistic calves, patterns much the same as Leathernck. Deep, soggy well-muscled and great colour pattern on a solid black foot. His dam cherry is a flashy young up and comer with a terrific udder, producing a good bull for Arden Loomis’s heifer pen in last years sale. Here is a good bull that will add an element of calving ease with performance. Our birthweights were a bit larger last winter but don’t let that turn you away. This cow family consistently transmits short gestation and lower birthweights. Big Trail would work well on a set of second calvers and mature cows for sleep easy nights and big pay cheques come fall. Once again, the females from these Ballistic calves will be tremendous. There was a big debate on wether or not Red River would lead off our bulls in the catalog. We make no bones about the Simmental program being the drivers seat of our program, to even debate having an Angus bull lead things of tell you what we think of this bull. 22G is the definition of a power red Angus bull. He suffered an injury on pasture and still weaned off his dam at a hefty 860 lbs. He hasn’t slowed down any since in fact he’s gained his way past all his counterparts including the Simmentals to weigh 1412 on Jan 1st! Talk about performance. IT comes as no surprise given his sire Rollin Deep is known for good performance traits. With the the power, muscle and style Red River possesses it’s easy to look past the maternal values he will provide. This would be a huge mistake because 22G is backed by a great mother cow we purchased from the Chitticks. She’s backed by the great cow maker Lazy MC Detour 2W and has picture prefect udder. Worth the trip to Rimbey… he will not disappoint.

Rio Lobo is a direct son out of the $120 000 MRLA Resource bull. Although our angus herd is smaller, we have done our best to source the best genetics available to provide our customers with angus cattle with a little extra performance. We didn’t get many straws of Resource but we have been impressed with the quality of the calves in our herd and in others. Rio Lobo damn was purchased out of Linda Weins reduction sale as the high seller. She has done a nice job producing a heifer for the keeper pen and Rio Lobo. If your looking for angus bull to use on your cows to add a little more growth but still calve well, take a long look here!

We have admired the Ter-Ron Parker cattle in other herds for their added muscling ability, something that we are trying to incorporate into our angus. Rio Bravo will be the first of the Parkers and comes from a very solid cow family, the old 26x cow raised her fair share of good ones. Two full brothers to the dam of Rio Bravo have sold through this sale to Jordon Livestock. Rod has been very pleased with both sons and uses them on his purebred herd both in the heifer pen and on cows. We also have a full sister to Rio Bravo due to calve any day that is spectacular and sure to add into this already stellar cow family. A shorter gestation bull here with a stacked cow family to back him, there is no guess work with Rio Bravo.

Cahill is almost as thick as he is tall! This moderate framed rascal is our second of our Parker calves and is going to sire quite the set of thick well-muscled calves. The dam to Cahill was another cow purchased from the Linda Weins reduction sale and she is virtually flawless, in my opinion she is phenotypically our number one red angus cow. Great strong foot, awesome leg structure, tremendous udder and always in top condition while raising a good calf. A bull that will moderate frame, add thickness and quarter to his offspring. Red Angus bulls with this amount of quarter are sometimes hard to find, a good young bull with very workable birth weight and a very bright future!

Stout Simmentals - 2 Pens of 3 Commercial HeifersAfter a year off of selling heifers in the bull sale we are back with 2 lots of 3 heifers that come right out of the keeper pen. We don’t sell many heifers but with our growing herd and high number of black heifers this year we thought it would be a good time to offer one off the top of the herd. Lana comes a good purebred cow that has done a really good job for us. She has raised bulls for Monty Youb and Dallas Frank and we were lucky enough to rent Daddy Sang Bass from Dallas to use on a couple of cows and had very good results. Sired by the new AI sire proclamation gives you a little bit of new blood in the purebred world. A very good, honest heifers with a nice set of EPDS that will go out and work for you.

TERMS & CONDITIONS TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable in Canadian Funds at par immediately following the sale. The right of ownership shall not pass until after settlement is made. All settlements must be made before any livestock will be released.

DELIVERY: Bulls will be wintered free of cost until April 1, 2021 providing the bulls going back to their farm are insured for all risks from the date of sale until purchaser obtains possession. After such date there will be a $3.00 per head per day charge per bull. Assistance with delivery arrangements will be made available at cost.

INSURANCE: Cattle are the property of the buyer as soon as the auctioneer declares them sold therefore buyers are urged to insure their animals. An insurance salesperson will be in attendance.

FLECKVIEH STATUS: All bulls that are at least 5 generations Fleckvieh are considered Full Fleckvieh. Fleckvieh percentages are determined by each individual consignor to the best of their knowledge. It is recommended if further research is required, to check with the Simmental Association.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: After settlement has been made the buyer will be provided with the proper registration papers, duly transferred on the record of the Canadian Simmental Association. Further transfer to the herd books of other countries shall be at the buyers expense.

BREEDERS GUARANTEE: Standard terms set forth by the Canadian Simmental Association, with the exception where any animal is subject to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void.

ACCIDENTS: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers and public, neither the consignors, auctioneer, sales staff of facility assumes any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property.
