Welcome!The SMS Production of
What It’s About…
Beauty and the Beast is a story about a prince cursed to live life forever as a hideous beast unless he is able to find true love and Belle, a young woman living in a dull, country town where she has no one to call a friend.
Through a series of events (both serious and comical), these two lonely souls are brought together. They find true love in one another and live happily ever after.
The Characters…
Belle Belle is a smart, confident young woman from a small village. She feels like misfit because she has no one she can really talk to. Although she can be extremely stubborn and outspoken, Belle is very kindhearted and tries to see the best in people.
The Characters…Beast The Beast is the master of the castle who was transformed by the Enchantress’ spell. He is a very complex character: a dictator, a hurt child, a hero, a defender, and a smitten prince.
He falls in love with Belle and attempts to win her love . In the process, he changes for the better and is finally transformed back into a human.
Gaston Gaston is pompous, dim-witted, and will do whatever it takes to win Belle’s hand. Gaston has all the confidence in the world, but lacks the humility to balance it. He is the villain in the story, the one who tries to keep Belle and the Beast apart. He even leads an attack on the Beast’s castle and attempts to kill him.
The Characters…
Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, & Chip
The human servants in the castle are transformed into household items when the prince is turned into the Beast. The three main servants are
Lumiere, a wise-talking ladies man who was turned into a candelabra
Cogsworth, an uptight, “by-the-book” servant who was turned into a clock
Mrs. Potts, a kind and motherly housekeeper who was turned into a tea pot – her son, Chip, was turned into a tea cup
The Characters…
Lefou and the other townsfolk Lefou is Gaston’s sidekick. He, like all the townspeople, thinks Gaston is a great hero. They support Gaston in all his efforts to win Belle’s hand. Lefou is a bumbling, clumsy idiot. He often falls down or gets hit in the head with something.
