Mission Statement

The 12th Marine Corps District, informally referred to as

“Force 12”, is comprised of eight regional Recruiting Sta-

tions and one Prior-Service Recruiting Station, located

across the western U.S., to include Alaska and the Pacific

Islands. The Mission of Force 12 is to locate, close-with,

and contract/enlist/access/ship the highest quality men

and women our Country has to offer, into the United

States Marine Corps. While this is our unifying purpose,

the Marines, Sailors, and Civilian-Marines of Force 12

see their larger purpose as securing the future of the

Marine Corps and changing lives!

Commanding Officer, 12th Marine Corps District

I’d like to welcome you and your families to the 12th Marine Corps District. We are the

largest District in both population and square mileage within Marine Corps Recruiting

Command. The District consists of eight Recruiting Stations and spans the entire west

coast and including Montana, Alaska, Hawaii, and Pacific Islands. Our mission is to lo-

cate, close with, enlist, and ship America’s finest young men and women for service as

United States Marines - we excel at this assignment.

To ensure our continued success, every Marine and Sailor in the District needs to be

able to focus their full attention on their assigned tasks. Marine and Family Readiness

is a pillar of our District’s readiness that is as important as any other. Simply put, every Marine and Sailor requires

sufficient stability and support from their family support structure to allow them to execute the critical skills that sus-

tain mission accomplishment. The Unit, Personal and Family Readiness Program (UPFRP) provides a support

network for Marines, Sailors, and their families to ensure that we are preparing our families and ourselves for the

challenges they will face on recruiting duty.

12th Marine Corps District has an appointed Deployment Readiness Coordinator (DRC), Ms. Maria Rodriguez

Callejas, who works in support of the District and is assisted by Uniformed Readiness Coordinators (URCs) within

each Recruiting Station. The DRC serves as the primary liaison between Marine Corps Recruit Depot’s Marine

Corps Community Service Office, the District, and the individual Marine and Sailor to ensure they and their families

are aware of the programs and resources available to assist them in establishing a solid foundation of support.

It has been proven again and again that the Marine or Sailor whose family readiness is strong is better prepared to

face the challenges associated with this demanding assignment. Our leaders are expected to be familiar with the

contents of the UPFRP order, MCO 1754.9B, and fully embrace their role within the program. Likewise, we en-

courage full participation in the program from our Marines, Sailors, and family supporters.

I am excited to have you aboard the 12th Marine Corps District and sincerely hope this develops into a personally

Command SgtMaj SgtMaj Carlos M. Murcia

Sergeant Major Murcia enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in June 1992 and graduated

from 1st Recruit Training Battalion, San Diego, California on 28 August 1992. Upon completing

Marine Combat Training and the School of Infantry in Camp Pendleton, California he received

the military occupational specialty of 0351 (Assaultman), and was meritoriously promoted to

Lance Corporal.

He received orders to Weapons Company, 3d Battalion, 3d Marines, 3d Marine Division, Ka-

neohe Bay, Hawaii where he served as Dragon Gunner from February 1993 to January 1994.

He also served as an Assistant Team Leader, Team Leader, and Chief Scout Sniper in the Sur-

veillance and Target Acquisition Platoon, Headquarters and Service Company from February

1994 to June 1997 where he was meritoriously promoted to Corporal and Sergeant. During this

assignment he deployed with the Battalion three times.

In July 1997, he received orders to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he served as Assault Section Leader, Platoon

Guide, and Platoon Sergeant in Company L, 3d Battalion, 2d Marines, 2d Marine Division, and deployed with the 24th Marine

Expeditionary Unit. During this assignment he participated in Operation DELIBERATE GUARD in Bosnia and deployed with

the Battalion twice.

In March 2000, Sergeant Major Murcia reported to Company F, 2d Battalion, 8th Marines, 2d Marine Division where he

served as Assault Section Leader, Machine Gun Section Leader, and Weapons Platoon Sergeant and deployed with the 26th

Marine Expeditionary Unit. During this assignment he was promoted to Staff Sergeant.

In January 2002, he requested and received orders to Drill Instructor School, San Diego, California. Upon graduation in

March 2002, he reported to Company G, 2d Recruit Training Battalion, and served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor,

and Series Chief Drill Instructor and was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.

In April 2005, Sergeant Major Murcia reported to Mobile Assault Company, 3d Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division

where he served as Platoon Sergeant and Platoon Commander. During this assignment he participated in Operation IRAQI

FREEDOM. In April 2006, he was assigned to Company K, 3d Battalion, 1st Marines and served as Company Gunnery Ser-

geant. He deployed with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit and again participated in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

Sergeant Major Murcia was Frocked to the rank of First Sergeant in March 2008 and reported to Edson Range, Weapons and

Field Training Battalion (Marine Corps Recruit Depot), Camp Pendleton, California where he served as the Range Company

First Sergeant until June 2009.

In June 2009, he received orders and reported to Hialeah, Florida where he served as the Inspector-Instructor First Ser-

geant, Detachment 4, TOW and Scout Platoon, Headquarters and Service Company, 4th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division.

In May 2012, he received orders to Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division where he served as Company First Ser-

geant, Truck Company Bravo and was Frocked in March 2013 to his current rank of Sergeant Major.

In April 2013, Sergeant Major Murcia reported to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 466, Marine Aircraft Group 16, 3d Ma-

rine Aircraft Wing, Miramar, California where he served as Squadron Sergeant Major. During this assignment he deployed in

participation of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

In November 2014, Sergeant Major Murcia reported to Combat Logistics Battalion 15, Headquarters Regiment, 1st Marine

Logistics Group, Camp Pendleton, California where he served as Battalion Sergeant Major. During this assignment he de-

ployed with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

In February 2016, he reported to Recruiting Station San Diego, 12th Marine Corps District, San Diego, California where he

served as Recruiting Station Sergeant Major until February 2018.

In February 2018, Sergeant Major Murcia reported to 23d Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, San Bruno, California where

he served as the Regimental Inspector-Instructor Sergeant Major.

In October 2019, Sergeant Major Murcia reported to the 12th Marine Corps District, MCRD San Diego, California where he

currently serves as the 12th Marine Corps District Sergeant Major.

Chaplain Services

Greetings from your District Chaplain!

The Mission of the District Chaplain’s is to strengthen the Spiritual, Emotional, Rela-

tional, Moral Fitness of our Marines and families.

Spiritual Fitness: How do you connect with the things in life that bring mean-

ing? How do you connect with a purpose larger than yourself? How do you culti-

vate and strengthen the inner spirit? For some it may be through meditation, prayer,

sacred writing, or worship. For others, it may mean volunteering, hiking or spending

time with family.

Emotional Fitness: How do you deal with stress? How do you decompress? The

answers are as unique as each person. There are some things that seem to be con-

sistent across the board: Exercise, Quality sleep, Healthy diet, Quality social interac-

tions.

Relational Fitness: Life is all about relationships. How can you invest in the most important relationships in your

life? Spouse, children, family, and friends. For Marriage Enrichment, you may be able to attend a CREDO Marriage Retreat,

which is an all-expenses paid weekend at a hotel or conference center.

Moral Fitness: Character counts on this assignment more than ever. There are so many ways for our moral compass to be

thrown off, so each person must be on guard that they do not indulge in the little compromises that eventually lead to a path of

destruction. The Marines are admonished to “keep our morals clean.” Doing the right thing at the right time matters.

In order to accomplish the mission of spiritual, emotional, relational and moral fitness, the Chaplain Supports, Trains, Assess-

es, Advises, and Refers.

Support: 24/7 Confidential Counseling and Crisis Support, Face-to-Face or Distance, In Person or (more likely) over the

phone. Help is only a phone call away. YOUR CHAPLAIN CARES ABOUT YOU. Regardless of your background or faith

Deployment Readiness Coordinator

Welcome to the Mighty 12th Marine Corps District! My name is Maria. I am the Dis-trict's Deployment Readiness Coordinator (DRC). My office is located at the District Headquarters, in Building #8, in room 120, aboard the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. My mission is to serve as Colonel Conway's primary representative for Marine and family readiness outreach, support and assistance. As an integral part of the Unit, Personal, and Family Readiness Program (UPFRP), I am here to support you, as you transition into our Command, and eventually, on to your next adventure. I have supported many Marines and families through my many years with this command. Just a little bit of history on myself. I completed 8 years in the Marine Corps on active duty. I have been in service to Marines and their families 24 years. Prior to taking on the DRC role here at the 12thMCD, I was the Command's embedded Marine Corps Family Team Building Program Trainer. Next February I will be will be in support of the Command for 10 years. My hobbies include: gardening, helping others, site-seeing, and traveling. I root for the, Las Vegas Raiders. I am here to support you and your family as you transition to a most challenging and rewarding assignment with us. Deployment Support

The Command Sponsorship Program

The Commands Sponsorship Program is designed to assist the Ma-

rine and family as they transition from Command to Command; there-

by reducing the stress that accompanies the moves. Each Service

Member is invited to request a sponsor from the gaining command

prior to transferring. This program is an extension of the Unit, Per-

sonal, and Family Readiness Program in efforts to maintain proactive

outreach and support ot incoming Service Members and their fami-

lies.

To request a sponsor, the Service Member will need to complete and

submit NAVMC Form 11799 Sponsor Request form. Once submitted

our RS Sponsorship Coordinator, will work with the Service Member to

ensure a sponsor is assigned upon request from the Service Member.

We will make every attempt to match the service members rank, martial status, and family dynamics. However, in Re-

cruiting, this may not always be possible. Service Members requesting a sponsor should ensure to inform their sponsor

or an unique or special needs for the transition.
