INDIA AND AYURVEDIC THERAPIES Ayurveda is the art of daily living in harmony with the laws of nature. It is an ancient natural philosophy of health and healing, a science of life and longevity.Its aims are to maintain good health and to heal anyone in poor health. Health is a perfect state of balance among three fundamental energies of the organism, Doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) and an equally vital balance of body, mind and soul or consciousness. According to Ayurveda, illness is a crisis of ama (toxic matter of the digestion), during which the body tries to rid itself of accumulated toxicity. To remove it from the system, Ayurveda uses many internal and external cleansing programmes. The most widely known is the Ayurvedic massage Abhyangam. Oil is applied to the whole body with a special massage which helps the toxins to move towards the gastro-intestinal tract. The effects of Ayurvedic treatments extend from the subtlest to the deepest areas of the body, helping to soothe stress and the nervous system.

Through rubbing, vertebral stretching, energy pumping and shaking-pressure techniques, this treatment releases blockages of the organs and tissues caused by irritation of the nervous system in and around the spine (hernia, protrusion, lumbago, compression). The Varma system is still alive and flourishing today in the south of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, taught in the traditional Gurukulam system to only a handful of students. The word Varma means energy of the body or vital energy. This life energy lies in the body at the Varma points, junctions where many different nerves meet. Chakra-Varmabhyangam is a massage combining chakra energy and rhythmic movements with varying pressure, which boosts the defence system and self-healing of the body. From the most ancient Chinese Taoist tradition, this stomach massage (where all our emotions are stored) is aimed at restoring the free circulation of vital energy (Chi) throughout the body. Through simple massages, sometimes gentle, sometimes deep, over the whole stomach area, the therapist succeeds in releasing physical, emotional or mental resistance which generates illnesses, mental or emotional imbalances. For clients who are not hotel guests and who have no treatment appointment, a bathrobe can be hired for € 4, the slippers for € 2 (single-use, you can take them home), a large towel for € 1 and a small towel for € 0.5.

Snacks & Bar A selection of light meals and salads is offered (see our Sur le pouce menu). Champagne, juice and soft drinks are available in the Martin’ Spa lounge. A personalised menu can be served upon prior reservation.
