KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS Knights of Columbus ‘Joe McKenna Council’ 9502 provides Parishioners with assistance
with household chores via their “Handy Helpers Crew”. The Handy Helpers are available to assist anyone with health or mobility challenges with minor household chores. Chores such as: changing a hard to reach light bulb, adding salt to a water conditioner or changing a furnace filter, replacing a smoke detector battery, lifting a water bottle onto a cooler/dispenser, or maybe taking recycling to the community bins – anything which could make life a little easier and would normally be done by yourself. Essentially anything too small to warrant hiring someone to do it. They will not undertake any renovations or repairs which require a licensed tradesman, nor will they compete with businesses such as cleaning services, taxis, yard maintenance and snow removal companies. Assistance will be free. For insurance purposes, helpers may not accept any payment of any kind. For your protection (and ours) helpers will always work in teams of at least two Knights. Finally, the Knights reserve the right to decline helping services as they see fit. For help with anything we may be able to handle, please phone Teresa at the Holy Family Parish office at 403-527-6933 The Annual Knights of Columbus Charity Appeal Raffle tickets will be on sale after every weekend mass in October. Cost is $5 and the prizes include a $10,000 early bird prize, a 2019 Ford F150 4x4 truck and a 2019 Ford Explorer XLT.

OUR FAITH IN ACTION A Project Funded by TIA
Mennonite Central Committee Alberta
Project Funded: Bridge Ministries
Meaningful Presence by Sr. Maryanne Kaman,
Volunteer
I worked as a missionary for seven years supporting people with HIV/AIDS in Jamaica and later volunteered in Ontario with a similar population. When I moved to
Calgary, I felt passionately drawn to working with people facing public ridicule. That's when God opened a new door for me going with the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Reintegration Chaplain to Bowden Institution where I visit inmates once a month. Each meeting provides the inmates enough time to tell their story. They are cut off from family and friends, and are struggling with the outcome of their crime and trying to cope with challenges emerging from incarceration. On several occasions inmates have mentioned how these visits have impacted their lives. As an example, "Doug", who never misses an opportunity to visit with us, meets us with a big smile, which is followed by a strong handshake. Without missing a beat "Doug" says, "I love when you guys are here. You make my day!" And upon leaving, "When are you coming back here so that I can sign up to see you again?" They recognize that prayers made specifically for their needs greatly ease worries and pain and bring some healing and peace of mind. Developing this relationship is the first step in the Reintegration Chaplain's work with "Doug" once he is released. The opportunity to spend a little time reflecting and sharing with each inmate has indeed been humbling. These interactions are a constant reminder of Jesus' statement in Matthew 11:28 where he embraces and invites all saying; "Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest". Certainly, our unreserved presence, listening and praying with the inmate reaffirms Jesus' invitation, which is a source of hope for those whose lives are still in tatters.
