Mazel Tov! Rabbi Cohen/ Rabbi Goldman's Shiur has completed the Sefer TAAMEI HAMINHAGIM.

Beginning this Shabbos, February 9, we will be starting a Shiur in Chayei Adam - Igros Moshe. The Shiur will revolve around the

practical Halachot that are incumbent upon every Jew to perform. We will refer constantly to the Sefer Igros Moshe, which is a compilation

of practical questions which were submitted to Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, the Gadol Hador. All are welcome to attend.

May I "jaywalk", crossing a street against the light or outside of an available crosswalk?

There is great debate regarding the halachic recognition of civil law within the principle of Dina d'malchuta dina. There-fore, the inclusion of jaywalking prohibitions in dina d'mal-chuta is unclear. However, all authorities acknowledge the mitzvah of “V'nishmartem m'od l'nafshoteichem”, requiring that a Jew guard her life; we are stricter regarding risks to life than regarding possible violation of Jewish law.

Therefore, one is obligated to refrain from crossing a street in a situation which might possibly involve danger to one’s self or to others. Further, one must be particularly careful around children, lest one teach them behaviour which they might em-ulate in an unsafe situation.

RENOVATION UPDATES

The Boardroom will be closed from February 5 until further notice The Jarvis Freedman Library is closed indefinitely and off limits at all

times. There will be no access to the Simcha Suite from Monday, Feb. 11 -

Friday, Feb. 15 The whole Sisterhood Lobby, adjacent washrooms, cloakroom and

stairwell is now under construction. That area will be completely off limits including Shabbos.

Please use cloakrooms on floors 2 & 3. Lockers: With work commencing in the Sisterhood Lobby area, the

lockers have been moved to the West Wing Hallway. Please remember to continue using the locker number you have been pre-assigned in whatever location the lockers may be.

In accordance with the BAYT Constitution, the Board has approved the formation of a Nominating Committee to prepare a slate of nominees for the 2019-2020 Board and Executive Committees. Nominating Committee Members are: Immediate Past President Melech Tanen (Committee Chair), the Current President, Zac Kaye, Jennifer Diamond, Shimmy Wenner and Leah Harfa Wercberger.

Expressions of interest to be nominated for Board or Executive Committee positions are invited from BAYT members in good standing. Expressions of interest should be addressed in writing to “Nominating Committee” and deposited to the Office no later than Friday, February 15, 2019. Please indicate your qualifications with particular emphasis on your contribution to‐date to BAYT.
