WELCOME TO

AN INTERNATIONAL FOLK DANCE WORKSHOP WITH TONI FRANCIS!

Although Toni is a native Daytonian, her dance and

culture credentials are international in scope. She started her

folk dance instructions in elementary school in Dayton. Shortly

after graduating from high school, she went to Israel and for two

years studied the Hebrew language and the evolving Israeli culture

at Beerot Yitzchak Farm (Kibbutz). On the way back to the United

States, she traveled through Europe.

She lived two years in New York City (Greenwich Village).

There she studied foreign languages (Hebrew, Greek, Russian), and

was a member of "Elan International Folk Theatre" directed by Martin

Koenig. She returned to Dayton in 1968. In a "short" period of

time, she found herself married with four children.

Toni has taught international folk dancing in Yellow

Springs, Qhio, at the Center City School in Dayton, at the University

of Dayton, and at the Jewish Federation in Dayton. She has directed

the Jewish Coumunity Folk Dance Theatre as part of the "World A'Fair"

and has been a member of Zivio Yugoslav Dancers.

It is customary to thank individuals for serving on

committees for a workshop such as this. Invariably, however,

somebody is overlooked. Rather, we would like to thank every

member of Miami Valley Folk Dancers for their help and support en

masse. Thanks especially to you, the participants, for being with

us today. Please enjoy.

Tempo of the music increases with each repetition, necessitatinga change from a walk to a 11ght , fas t run.

A good dance to use when the dancers think they are goodor when they think there is no exercise to folk dancing.
