How does the sensory language/imagery in Chapters 15 thru 19 help to convey the shift in tone? Cite evidence from the novel and explain how it helps the reader to understand the shift in tone.
Compare and contrast the characterization of Mattie Cook from “Fever 1793” with Rachel from “Eleven” and how they both struggle with their identity. Write a 5 paragraph essay explaining how the author used characterization to convey the theme and cite evidence from the stories.

• Vocabulary words are selected from current short story or core novel.
• Assignments are listed on board, and vocabulary list handouts with instructions are included on Schoology.dasd.org.
• Various types of context clue sentences are used to teach the meanings of the words.
• Students may work ahead and use Advisory time as well.

• BE PREPARED!• I-Pads are tools that will be used for your classes. Charge
them overnight so that you are ready for the day.• Class materials (i.e. pencils, pens, books, etc.)• EAT! The days are going to be long, and being an active
learner is much more difficult when hungry• Respect
• Please address concerns or questions them with calm, respect. We are here to help EVERY student. LET’S WORK TOGETHER!
• We expect students to RESPECT themselves, one another, faculty/staff and the building
• Patience• Remember that each core teacher will see about 150 students
daily • Please 24 hr. email response during the week• SPECIFIC TO MATH Graded tests can take 7-10 days
(sometimes shorter, sometimes longer)• Hygiene
• Hygiene is essential; bodies will change significantly so please remind children to be mindful of their practices

Remind students to utilize their time and ADVOCATE for themselves (i.e. Advisory time when available, before school and after, Math Help Club, Homework Club, etc.) ALL assignments will be placed in Schoology; adapted and enrichmentGrades - May be harder to earn that “A” Culture – I love learning about YOUR lives & culture and tying to fit it into our lessons when possible. A LOT of students are cross-teamed this year, but please know that the math depart utilize common notes and testsA GREAT YEAR!!! While the students’ work load will grow, and some struggles may surface that they are not use to, we are here to help in every way and try to make their learning as fun as possible!!!
