What does middle school look like?
◉ You will be on a team of teachers and will switch classes within that team.
◉ You have 2 connection classes per semester.
◉ Your locker will be in your homebase.◉ You will have locker breaks at the
beginning and end of the day.◉ At lunch, you will sit with your class at an
assigned table.
Q: What are the school hours? 7:30-2:15 No supervision prior to 7 a.m. Doors will open at 7 a.m.
If you are tardy, a family member must check you in. No checkouts after 1:45.
Q: Will my student ride the bus with high school students?No, BCMS will have its own buses
Q: What SCOPE classes will we have?A: SCOPE will be served in Social Studies,
Language Arts, Science, and Math in an advanced content model, not a pull out.
Q: Can I choose my connections classes?A: The only classes you can sign up for are Band and Chorus. All the other classes are picked for
you. Everyone will have PE at some point.
Q: Where do I go in the mornings?A: If you eat breakfast at school, you will go straight
to the cafeteria. If not, you will go straight to homebase in the mornings.
Q: What will the first day of school be like?A: Attending Orientation will help; attending Open
House will help; we will have student ambassadors throughout the building showing you where to go.
Promotional Guidelines◉ Students must pass 4 out of 5 subject to
be promoted to the next grade.◉ Subjects include:o Matho Scienceo Language Artso Social Studieso Connections
Can I carry a book bag?
◉ You MAY carry small purses only, not large handbags or totes.
◉ You MAY NOT carry book bags of any kind throughout the school day.
◉ This includes string bags.
Electronics
◉ We are a "Bring Your Own Technology" (BYOT) school.
◉ Your teachers will tell you when it is a BYOT day in your classroom.
◉ This is up to the teacher's discretion.◉ You will find out more information from
your teachers at the beginning of the year.◉ If you do get in trouble with a device, we
ask that a family member come pick it up from school.
Food, Drinks, Gum
◉ No food is allowed in the classroom unless the teacher has given permission.
◉ Only clear water in clear, plastic bottles is allowed
◉ Gum is NOT allowed in the building.
School Nurse
◉ We share a nurse with another school.◉ The nurse is here every other day.◉ We have a clinic worker on the days that
the nurse is not here.
PBIS◉ What is PBIS?
o PBIS is a school-wide positive reward system to create a safer and more effective school
◉ Why are we using PBIS?o We use PBIS to improve student achievement
and teach appropriate behaviors◉ Who is involved in PBIS and where do we use it?
o ALL students and ALL staff are involved in PBIS and in ALL settings
PBIS◉ We utilize an online program, LiveSchool, students
can earn positive points or negative demerits◉ PAWS - proud, accountable, willing, successful
o P: vandalism, dress code violation, inappropriate language/contact, horseplay, teasing
o A: misuse of technology, not having materials, out of area
o W: disrespectful behaviors, defiant behaviors, food/drink/gum
o S: not having homework, academic dishonesty, refusal to work, being off task
PBIS
Rewards occur at every:◉ Weekly, with bigger rewards monthly◉ You earn rewards by earning points in
LiveSchool◉ Rewards may include: movie/popcorn,
dress down days, drawings for gift cards, etc.
Dress Code
At BCMS, ALL students will wear uniforms.
◉ Tops: Polo/Collared or Button up shirts
◉ Colors: Forest Green, Gray, White, or Black
◉ Bottoms: Khaki or Black pants, shorts, or skirts.

Q: Where can I sit at lunch?A: Students sit at assigned tables with their lunch class.
Q: When can I go to the vending machine?A: You can go to the vending machine during lunch, once you have eaten your lunch, and with teacher permission. You may also go to the vending
machine with teacher permission and a signed agenda. There is also Ice Cream sold each day.
