Did You Know That… The Bruin Invitational began as a four team boys tournament 40 years ago: The tournament expanded to 16 co-ed teams in 1993; Handsworth Royals made 17 straight appearances between 1979 – 1995; Coach Al Rose has coached in 22 Bruin Invitationals for Britannia and Sutherland; Bob Fitzpatrick has been our Master of Ceremonies for 38 of the 40 Invitationals; Pitt Meadows, under Coach Rich Goulet, dominated the 1980’s, winning 4 times; Britannia (10 times) and Windsor (3 times) have dominated the girls side since 1993;

Britannia Boys have been champions 10 times since 1974; Britannia coach Kyle Dempster starred for Handsworth when they weren’t very good; Over 5,000 players have played in the Bruin Invitational; The “Wildest Coach” Award goes to Rich Chambers, Centennial, for technicals given and

was played. The $100.00 shot from Centre has been won twice since 1995. The “Invitational” was recently named one of Canada’s top high school tournaments by

‘Slam’ magazine. Britannia Bruins (1998) set a scoring record in the Las Vegas Reebok open establishing

the greatest point spread in tournament history. Former MVP’s include Kevin Durant, Tracy McGrady and Mike Bibby. For more information, see Coach Dempster.

Ron Suzuki, Strathcona, has been named Britannia “Fan of the Year”! Coach Eric Ming (2003) was awarded Felipe Lopez’ Vancouver Grizzlies shoes when his
