Welcome….…to Cub Scouting

Purpose of Tonight’s Meeting

To explain the Cub Scouting program. To explain opportunities for parents to

participate with son in Scouting program. To complete registrations forms and collect

Scouting fees.

Scouting’s Mission

“It is the mission of the Boy Scouts of America to serve others by helping to instill values in in young people and in other ways prepare them to make ethical choices over their lifetime in achieving their full potential. The values we strive to instill are based on those found in the Cub Scout Promise, Cub Scout Motto and the Law of the Pack.”

Purpose of Cub Scouting

Year-round family program designed for boys who are in 1st through 5th grade. Purposes are:

The Law of the Pack

The Cub Scout follows Akela. The Cub Scout helps the Pack go. The Pack helps the Cub Scout grow. The Cub Scout gives goodwill.

Parent’s Agreement

I have read the Promise and I want my son to join the pack. I will assist him in observing the policies of the BSA and chartered organization.

I will: While he is a Tiger Cub, serve as his adult partner and

participate in all meetings and activities. While he is a Cub Scout, help him and approve his Cub

Scout advancement. Attend monthly pack meetings and take part in other

activities; assist pack leaders as needed.

Cub Scout Membership

Family-centered program. Boys and parents join a Pack. Meets

monthly. Assigned to a den (same grade boys). Meets

weekly. Parent-led committee runs Pack.

Program Leadership

Program leadership is totally volunteer. Over 3,500 volunteers in Lewis & Clark

Council, BSA. Active parental support is needed. “Many hands make light work.” Opportunity to get involved with your son.

Part of the Lewis & Clark Council, BSA

Our pack is part of the Lewis & Clark Council, BSA. Serves over 17,000 young people with a variety of

Scouting programs across the county. Camps and facilities include – Camp Joy, Carlyle IL;

Camp Vandeventer, Waterloo IL; Camp Warren Levis, Godfrey IL; Camp Sunnen, Potosi, MO.

Who Pays For It?

Cub Scouting program is supported by families. $15.00 for annual BSA membership. $12.00 for optional Boy’s Life Magazine. Additional den and pack dues for activities and

awards. Additional support of council through Friends of

Scouting at first of year.

Advancement Plan

Recognition is important to boys. Advancement plan provides fun for boys. Gives sense of personal achievement. Strengthens family understanding. Opportunity for parents to be involved. Each grade level has its own book.

What’s Next?

The cost of joining. Parental involvement in the pack and dens. Separate by age group (Tigers, Wolf, Bear,

Webelos) and meet the scouts and parents. Become familiar with den – meeting times,

locations, etc. Complete applications (both youth and adult).

What’s the Cost for Joining?

Cub Scout registration – $60* Cub Scout Leader registration – $15 Uniforms $60-67**

* The registration fee includes BSA registration, subscription to Boy’s Life, and covers the cost of materials used during the year** Uniforms may be available from our loan closet

Meet with other parents in your scout’s den Get to know each other Who can serve as leader? Who can help? If you have scouts in different dens, find which
