Avery’s Mission Statement
• It is our mission at Avery Elementary to create a safe and enriching environment

independent thinking, and applying knowledge. In doing this, we believe

Accept responsibilities for your own actions. Voices remain quiet and movement is orderly in
the halls. Enter school on time, prepared and ready to
learn. Respect self, others, and school property. You control your own behaviors – be polite! Excellence in education is of utmost importance. Safety rules are obeyed for everyone’s benefit.

Reading
• Activities prepared to meet each child’s needs

Meet with groups 3 - 4 times weekly for about 20 minutes each
7 to 9 students with similar reading and comprehension abilities. Groups change as levels change
Writing
Ongoing process in which children are involved in writing meaningful pieces while going through the writing process. • Pre-writing• Drafting• Revising• Editing• Publishing
Students will also be journaling frequently
We will be writing across the curriculum (in all subject areas).
WRITING WILL NOW BE A GRADED SUBJECT ON THE REPORT CARD.

We follow a 6-day rotation schedule. Monthly schedules will be sent home on a calendar for you to keep at home.

Homework Expectations
• CCSD recommends 2nd grade students have no more than 20 minutes of homework each night.
• Spelling homework is due on Fridays.
• Homework packet
• Students are encouraged to read for pleasure every day

Information…
• Visitor Check-In (all visitors must sign in at the front office
• Agendas should be reviewed and signed at least once a week
• Papers in the binder pockets should stay home• Lunch visitors must sit in a special place in the
lunchroom• Parents may send in Birthday Treats which teacher
will pass out at recess• Invitations may not be passed out at school unless
you have one for each student in class (school policy).• Transportation Notes – must be signed• Students may bring in .50 for Ice Cream on
Thursdays
