Mission
Eppendorf is a synonym for custom-specific processes, innovative technologies, and high quality products and services contributing to the improvement of people's living conditions.
Improving people's living conditions - something the Eppendorf company was already committed when it was founded over 60 years ago.
Since then we have grown from a regionally oriented producer of equipment to a global player. Innovation, technical advances and up-to-date technologies on the one hand, and a tried and true moral concept and fair handling with each other on the other hand, form the basis for this development.
In this brochure we hope to not only give you a glance at our products and services, but also to enthuse you about the Eppendorf corporate group, our mission and our goals.
We hope you enjoy learning about us!

We want to understand life. The more we unlock the principles and processes of life, the greater the possibilities to effectively improve the quality of life of the world population.
The first big step was simply hybridization and breeding of plants and animals. Humanity profits from this through intensified agriculture and productive livestock husbandry. Along with new biological insights, continually increasing medical research also contributes to keeping many people healthy longer or returning them to health.
Using the development of life sciences and the use of new technologies in the pharmaceutical research and medical diagnostics, people today are in the act of understanding the basics of life. Diseases such as aids, cancer or malaria can be fought more effectively and also the nutritional situation will be improved in the future for a large part of the world's population. Eppendorf technology and expertise support and accompany the life sciences of the 21st century in all disciplines. In this way we understand life and can make it more livable for everyone.

From equipment construction to company of the Life-Sciences
In 1945 Dr. Heinrich Netheler and Dr. Hans Hinz founded "Elektromedizinische Werkstätten GmbH", a medical technology company, on the grounds of the Eppendorf University Hospital in Hamburg. This has become Eppendorf, recognized as the worldwide leader in the biotechnology branch. The goal was the tangible improvement of living conditions of human society through advanced and high quality products.
The combination of technology and ethics for the well-being of humans were then, just as today, an important part of the company's philosophy.
In the 60's Eppendorf built new company premises at the current location in Hamburg-Hummelsbüttel, which are continually being expanded.
Two-thirds of the sales were generated in Germany in the 80's; in the 90's the USA developed into the most important sales market. The region of Western Europe is now one-third of sales. At the same time, the company structure has not only expanded, but has also been modified. The result is the establishment of sales companies and production units in many important markets as stand-alone companies. In the year 2000 Eppendorf converted to a corporation, gaining far-reaching control functions as a holding company.
A globally involved group has evolved today from the regionally oriented company, which realizes more than 90 percent of sales abroad, with around 2,500 employees worldwide.

"Dr. Vogeser, how would you define 'Eppendorf quality‘ in a few words?“"First-class, consistent, durable, and realiable- not repair intensive."
"What is the difference between Eppendorf and its competitors?“„Eppendorf products are indeed more expensive to buy than the competition, but offer better quality and good service. Naturally, that has its cost. Use and handling are very well matched to practical requirements.“
"Why did you decide to use Eppendorfproducts?“"Quality and longevity make the products a good investment. Spare parts are still available even after many years of operation; service can be called the entire time."
"On the subject of service: what is your experience working with the employees of Eppendorf?“"Only positive. The employees take their time, respond to special requirementsand come up with unconventionalsolutions as well. Also, the company reacts quickly to inquiries and personnel is technically competent. It is a partnership relationship and always friendly and polite.

Eppendorf quality is simply fascinating!
Dr. Gudrun Vogeser, a
biologist with two PHD's,
founded the company PIKA
Weihenstephan in Freising,
Bavaria.
The company offers microbiologic
analysis systems for fast analysis
of hazards in production.
Eppendorf's product range is one of the most comprehensive of all biotechnology companies. The products offered are not developed arbitrarily, but rather are the result of our comprehensive approach. It is our goal to consider all the relevant aspects of any application. Because of intensive observations and analyses of the events in the laboratory, Eppendorf develops numerous systems, which consist of instruments and consumable articles for fundamental and material research.
Our customers are in the traditional life sciences industrial research and in the academic fields, however also in medicine. An increasing number of private industrial research institutes are also now in our focus. We orient ourselves to their demands and strive to help create safer, simpler and faster laboratory processes. The fact that our products are now used in labs worldwide is not only due to the mature technology, but also because we offer innovations as all-inclusive problem solutions.
Our comprehensive company philosophy also explains our service motto: Service for the customer doesn't stop at product delivery. We offer extensive support via our customer service, but also using communication platforms, such as hotlines and in our training centers. Here we share our knowledge through advanced, product and user training.

In Hamburg, this name is an attractive quarter of the city. However, in laboratories around the world Eppendorf has another meaning: Laboratory equipment and technologies, which have often proven to be milestones.
From the legendary piston-stroke pipettes, up to instruments equipped with state of the art technology, each product embodies the characteristics, which make the Eppendorf trademark so valuable: Quality, Innovation, Service and Design. We are not satisfied with our products until they have met our high require-ments for precision, reliability, safety and ease of operation.
Only with a long-term consistent strategy was it possible to solidify the brand value in the consciousness of the research community and to create the necessary trust. The good name is not an end in itself, but rather serves to keep our long-term and sustainable position. An important part of the Eppendorf strategy is to further strengthen the trademark, and with this increase its value and that of the company.
The most important prerequisites for the strength of the Eppendorf trade-mark is our claim to expand our core expertise as technology leader. We are continually and reliably at the forefront of new methods, processes and challenges due to our close contact to all types of research facilities. Being customer oriented also helps us with the expansion of our brand value. Because, only through close dialog with our users can we develop products that optimize work flows and offer real use.
The Eppendorf brand
Dr. Gang Wang completed his doctorate in 1998 in molecular and cellular biology at Tulane Universityin New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.From 1999 to 2005 he worked in postdoctoral work and later as assistant researcher at the Molecular Biology Institute of the University of California, Los Angeles. Afterwards he was appointed to the "Hundred Talent Program“ of the Chinese Academy of Sciences at the Shanghai Institute for Biochemistry and Cell Biology. Here he was the manager of the Mediator Complex and EukaryoticGene Regulation Group.
"You work in China, why are there numerous Eppendorf products in your lab?"Eppendorf was already a permanent fixture in my work as a researcher in the USA.The trademark is very trustworthyfor me. I know that I can rely on it. I want to share this sentiment with my Chinese team as well.“
"In your opinion, what makes the Eppendorf equipment so special?“"In my laboratory we use the most important Eppendorf products – centrifuges and pipettes. Compared to other brands, the centrifuges are easier to use and the pipettes work extremely accurately. And also another aspect is important for me: The design is not an end in itself, rather it is oriented to the requirements of the user. This makes working with Eppendorfproducts very convenient.“
"How important to you is the service from Eppendorf?“"This also sets Eppendorf apart fom the competition. During the purchase of a large system, the representative respon-sible visited me twice in one month. This typical German commitment impressed me very much - and perhaps was also the last push in my decision to purchase."
"Your research is taking fast strides. Can Eppendorf keep up with the changing requirements?“"Eppendorf is indeed a traditionaltrademark with a history, but still repre-sents the newest technology and innova-tion. Previously I was only familiar with the normal PCR cycler. However, now I have decided on the newest real time device, which works with numerous new tech-nologies. I made this decision because I trust this brand, but also because I expect innovations from them. I hope that I get impressive results from this impressive equipment -but time will tell......."

Successfully designing the future
The Eppendorf corporate group could successfully place itself on the world market as a successful and innovative and internationally active life sciences company in the past. This success, which is especially thanks to the motiva-tion and productivity of our employees, is not just to hold on to, but rather to use and further expand.
A fundamental and central role is the task to prepare our employees and management for the increasing requirements at an early stage. The identifica-tion, selection, further development and support of suitable employees for technical and management jobs, both domestic and foreign, is for this a very important building block.
In the scope of diverse support programs, potential candidates are prepared specifically for continuing job positions.
Nils Krüger studied industrial engineeringand management and after his postgradu-ate work at Eppendorf, wrote his thesis. After successful participation in the management trainee program, he is today department manager of production plan-ning at Eppendorf AG in Hamburg.
"During the three year support program, along with the comprehensive methods and management training, the exchange
between the prospective and experiencedmanagement was especially one of the most important building blocks. The personal contact and relationship across the individual areas of technology changed my perspective of the corporate group. So much from the support program advanced me personally and I still profit today from the knowledge and experience from that time.“

We train!
After a qualifying initial basic education, Eppendorf supports trainees from their own ranks. Training takes place in proven and future-oriented job descriptions and has a long tradition.
Using our training concept, we support equally the placement of occupatio-nal, personal and social competence.Using specific training marketing, we gain the interest of, and convince, suitable applicants for our training occupations. Our training spectrum completely encompasses both sales and technical/industrial occupations.
Through a practicum, we encourage students to gather important occupatio-nal experience. Furthermore, there is also the possibility for students to have supervision in their thesis for doctorate, bachelor and master.
