SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME July 26, 2020 NEW FRONTIERS In today’s world where the globe has shrunk and explorer’s eyes scan the universe instead of the oceans, our children are still born with a love of discovery. Whether we’re casually participating in scavenger hunts and Easter egg searches or we’re researching the causes and cures of disease, humans are addicted to that sense of exploration. We thrill to the feeling of hunting, seeking new horizons even in our own backyards. God’s word tells us we should seek the Kingdom of heaven with that same ardor. In His parable Jesus likens the Kingdom to buried treasure that believers diligently seek. And then, when we have found that golden reward, we joyously sell all that we have to make the treasure our own. To satisfy our explorer’s hearts He daily gives us a new frontier: the Kingdom of Heaven. May we learn to rise each day in eager anticipation of discovering His treasure and making it part of our lives. And may we pass this mission of holy exploration on to each new generation. MASS ATTENDANCE As you know, due to the restrictions with regard to the Coronavirus, we are only allowed a certain number of people in the church at the Masses. Kindly try to arrive 5 minutes prior to the Mass to give yourselves enough time to get signed in. Please be aware that if we do reach our maximum we cannot let anyone else in that day. And although it breaks our hearts to have to turn anyone away it is out of our hands and we must abide by the law. We greatly appreciate your understanding and patience at this difficult time. God bless! CEMETERY SERVICES CANCELLED Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus, we have decided it’s best to cancel the Cemetery Services here and at St. Declan’s Parish for 2020. You are most welcome to make a donation to the cemeteries if you wish.

SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

July 26, 2020

NEW FRONTIERS In today’s world where the globe has shrunk and explorer’s eyes scan the universe instead of the oceans, our children are still born with a love of discovery.

PRAYER FOR HEALING Heavenly Father, loving and merciful God, we worship and adore You. In faith, we come before You asking for mercy and forgiveness for our sins against You and Your creation. In this time of anxiety and distress, we lift up to You the COVID-19 situation throughout the world. Father, we beg You to halt the spread of this disease and to grant healing and comfort to those afflicted. Please cover everyone with the Precious Blood of Your Son, Jesus and protect all of us, especially those in the medical field, from any infection and harm. Lord Jesus, we beseech You to grace government leaders and medical experts with wisdom and knowledge to combat the spread of COVID-19 and to find a cure for it.

CHURCH RE-OPENING! The church has re-opened for Masses. Masses will be Wed, Thurs. & Fri. at 9:00am and on Sat. at 4:30pm and on Sunday at 10:00am (please note that there is only one Mass on Sunday). Due to safety regulations we need to continue social distancing while in the church. Masks are required and entry is through the side door by the washrooms and exiting is out through the front doors. However, if you are at risk for Covid 19 because of health issues please refrain from attending at this time. For more details on worshipping safely at Mass please visit our website.

THANK YOU TO OUR WONDERFUL VOLUNTEERS... to our Gardening Volunteers who have worked hard to keep the flower beds around the Church looking so beautiful this summer. To our Collection Counters who kindly volunteer their time each week to count the collection. To Scottie Martin for his help on Thursdays in the Parish Office and to our volunteers who have stepped up to help out at the Masses during the re-opening of the Church while maintaining Covid restriction rules.

We are so very grateful to you all!

CHOOSING THE REAL TREASURE We all like to hear stories of ordinary people winning the lottery. We love treasure stories and Jesus did too. But what makes Matthew 13:44-52 a little frustrating is that Jesus didn’t tell us what kind of people found the treasure or what they did with the treasure once they found it. But Jesus wasn’t interested in just telling success stores. In the parables of the treasure in the field and the pearl of great price, Jesus wanted us to think, not about gold or jewels, but about a treasure of greater value than anything earth could offer. This eternal treasure is easily found too. But the cost is sacrificial. We must give everything, every talent, every dream, every hope to gain it. Only then can we become true Christian stewardship sharing the treasures God has so generously given us.

ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen. St. Alphonsus de Liguori

Sunday Morning Smile The eight year old terror of the neighbourhood found himself lost at a local shopping mall. On approaching a neighbour who worked as the mall security guard the boy asked: “Do you think we’ll ever find them?” The honest guard replied, “I don’t know kid… there are so many places they can hide.”

TRAVELLERS PRAYER Heavenly Father, be with all those who travel during these days of summer. Let them be conscious of safety as they travel and bring them safely to their destination and home again . During days of vacation

grant refreshment of spirit crowned with the joy of renewed fellowship with distant family and friends. Remind all who travel that their small journey is but a faint echo of the true

journey of life, a journey back to you.

COMMON PRAYER FOR THE FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF LAUDATO SI’: Pope Francis urges everyone to take part in Laudato Si’ Year which continues to May 24, 2021. He has announced a special prayer entitled Common Prayer for Earth and for Humanity to accompany our reflections during the year-long anniversary celebration of the encyclical. The prayer helps us in our response to the global pandemic and to the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor. Info: John Dorner ([email protected]).

Enjoy a Safe & Blessed Summer!

NOTE ON DONATIONS Many thanks to all of you who have continued to give to our Parish during this terrible virus. Many of you, even those who are not yet able to attend Mass, are still making their donations and we greatly appreciate it! We ask that you keep us in mind if you are on vacation this summer. Unfortunately, our Parish expenses never take a holiday so we require your ongoing assistance. Thank you so much for your continued generosity and support in keeping our Church operating and beautiful!
