We are reminded again in the Gospel this weekend that we
are all sinners, and every one of us needs the mercy of God in
order to be saved. In God we live and move and have our
being. With humility the tax collector prayed to God for
mercy, and the response of the Lord is one of the most
familiar verses of Scripture “Whoever exalts himself will be
humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”
Those who seek only earthly glory and fame without being
mindful of others will be humbled in the heavenly kingdom.
In humility we find strength! Let us never forget the example
of the Saints, especially those like St. Mother Theresa who
lived lives in service to the poor and brokenhearted. Let us
strive to give all to Christ! The world tells us we can only find
happiness and fulfillment in worldly possessions and the
things of this earth, as Catholics we know that we are called
to more. It is through God alone that we will attain an
everlasting happiness which will exist beyond our earthly
lives. This week let us all seek to live with more humility, to
put the needs and struggles of others before our own. We are
all called to be Saints, let us more fully live lives that show an
understanding and an acceptance of this call! May God bless
you this week.
