Welcome to Honolulu!
Aloha!
On behalf of the leadership of the Society of Clinical Psychology (Division 12, American Psychological Association), welcome to Honolulu. The details of our entire program are listed in this brochure, including sessions for all eight of our sections. Don’t miss our invited speakers, and everyone is invited to our Award Ceremony and Social Hour on Thursday evening. Updates will be posted on our website www.div12.org throughout the Convention.
The theme for the Society’s convention programming is "Transferring Evidence-Based Treatments to the Practice Community: How can Practitioners and Researchers Make it Work?” Our 2013 Program Chair, Dr. Katie Witkiewitz, has assembled a truly excellent collection of invited addresses, paper sessions and posters. The issue of how to meaningfully adapt evidence-based treatments to everyday clinical practice is tremendously important, and is, after all, the ultimate end point of treatment research. The Society is not the only division that cares deeply about this issue, and thus this year’s convention program has forged links with programming scheduled by other divisions. I am confident you will enjoy the Society’s convention program, as well as the surf, the sun, and the beach (afternoon hiatuses are scheduled for each day).

Program Chair WelcomeE Komo Mai! [Welcome!] to Hawaii. I invite you to join your Division 12 colleagues for a great meeting on the Island of O‘ahu – the “gathering place.” The Division 12 program has much to offer this year, with three invited speakers, two invited symposia, and numerous special sessions devoted to a broad array of topics including: novel treatment approaches, impact of DSM-5, translational research, dissemination and implementation, working with diverse populations, and increasing cross-cultural validity of our treatments. There are also numerous sessions designed for graduate students and early career psychologists, with a number of sessions on obtaining internships, dealing with the internship shortage and careers in the new era of healthcare reform. The schedule was designed to offer many opportunities for engaging with colleagues and enjoying the scenery and culture of O‘ahu. I look forward to seeing you all in Hawaii!
