There is no doubt in my mind that the reason I found a job so quickly was that I was already employed in a subsi-dized position. It is easier to

secure a job if you are already employed – regardless of

whether the position you are in is subsidized or not.

During my apprenticeship I broadened my network. To my

colleagues, clients and col-laborators. You must believe in your own competencies.

Identify what a business finds important and ask how you

can help them!

My job rotation led me to vocational education, an

improved grasp of the Danish language and finally to full- time employment. My work-ing hours are good, as is my wage. I have every second weekend off. I am happy.

Mentor schemeDo you need extra help in getting started in your new workplace?

Subsidized employment, business apprenticeship and job rotation schemes can be paired with a mentor scheme. A mentor can guide or introduce you or teach you the ropes. It depends on your needs and qualifications.

If interested, be sure to ask your employment consultant if you are eligible for a mentor.

John, 41 from USAHe is presently in a permanent position in an IT-business having secured an apprenticeship in a similar firm.

ApprenticeshipAn apprenticeship can help you become familiar with a busi-ness – not to mention an entire industry – improving your employment opportunities in the process. You can apply for a 4 – 13 week business-apprenticeship. As the apprenticeship is unpaid, you are eligible for social security or unemployment benefits during that period.

Ikhlaq, 44 from PakistanHe is presently working as a bus driver by Arriva following a job rotation process.

Job rotation You can work as a temp for an employee who’s away on train-ing. This is called job rotation. This way, you can gain experi-ence and consolidate your network within your profession or become acquainted with a new profession.

The temporary position can last up to one year and working hours must be at least 10 hours a week. You will be paid in keeping with the agreements that apply to the business in question.

Adriana, 32 from BulgariaAfter holding a subsidized position in the City of Copenhagen, she subsequently secured a job within the same area of employment.

Subsidized position A subsidized position can provide a shortcut to permanent employment. It can provide you with work-experience, a net-work, and help you consolidate your qualifications.

Subsidized positions are typically of 3-6 months in length. Salaries depend on whether your position is in the public or the private sector. In the public sector, the salary is the equivalent of social security (or unemployment benefit). It is up to you to negotiate your salary within the private sector. In the latter case, the municipality provides the firm with a subsidy towards the cost of your salary.
