Google Classroom...
Homework is due each week. Your child should
complete one ELA and one Math skill each day of
the week. You may send the homework packet
each day for me to check the work as it is
completed or you may return the completed
packet to school the last day of each week. Have
your child complete the skills independently after
you read the directions to her/him.
Extra Practice…Homework
Your child will work in a small group on the basic skills needed to learn how to read. Sight words are one of the essential skills that you can help with at home. I have provided you with the list of Kindergarten sight words that we will be practicing in class. These words are found in many of the books your child will read. However, these are words that do not follow any decoding rules, so they must be memorized. Students should be able to read the words within 5 seconds. Practicing with your child will make a big difference!
Follow the below directions for reading the Kindergarten sight words. The envelope is for you to store the words in so the words stay together.
· Add sight words to the ring as they appear on the newsletter/homework.
· Mix up the words. Don’t leave the words in the same order that they are introduced.
· Practice in short sessions. Two 8-minute sessions will be more productive than one 16-minute session.
· Set goals with your child. How many can he/she get right? Raise the goal by just a few each time to build in success.
· You may help your child do one game a week for extra practice. The games are located on the sight word envelope. Your child will earn Tiger Bucks for completing a game for the week.
· Write the new sight words weekly.
· Do a search for sight word games on the computer. There are many available to create yourself.
· Practicing, Practice, Practice!
Thank you for your continued support!
If I can help you in any way, please contact me!
Extra Practice…Sight Word Cards
● Please send to school Box Tops
for Education and Community
Coffee labels.
● Please label your child’s belongings with first
and last names using a permanent marker.
Label jackets, backpacks, etc…
● If your child needs to change their route of
transportation, a dated note must be sent to
school. For example, if your child needs to
be a car rider for the day, you would send a
note with this information. The office will
not accept transportation changes over the
phone or from email.
Transportation...
● Your child is allowed ten unexcused
absences.
● Send a doctor’s excuse or write a note when
your child is absent.
IMPORTANT news about
absences!
COVID-19 Information
▪ Water fountains will be closed. You may send a child size water bottle to school with your child. A flip top and spill-proof bottle would work best. Only water is allowed.
▪ Teach your child to cover his/her mouth when coughing/ sneezing. We typically teach children to cough/sneeze in the crease of their elbow or the inside at the top of their shirt. This way germs do not get on their hands. Teach your child to blow their nose when it is runny and then throw their tissue in the trash can.
▪ Practice self-help skills with your child. Teach your child to zip his/her pants and to secure the button or snap at the top of the pants after using the bathroom. Many students enter kindergarten not knowing how to tie their shoes, but it is a skill that is learned around this age.
Families should consider items that students can independently open. Easy to open snacks and lunch containers are encouraged. Have your child practice opening and closing any containers and sandwich pages.
