Boast- ing 475 acres of parks and open spaces, and more than 50 miles of marked hiking trails, the 30 developed and semi-developed parks offer a wide range of active and passive recreational opportunities—from beach parks, to sport fields, to serene hiking trails and biking pathways. Our well-rounded park system presents the recreation seeker with excellent swimming beaches, a public boat launch, docks for fishing, public tennis and basketball courts, a skate park, picnic spots and shelters, children’s play structures, pedestrian and horse trails, and nature areas for leisurely strolls, exploring, and bird watching. Neighborhood parks provide a quiet retreat. Sculptures, memorial benches, and artist-designed steel rib- bons embellishing the light fixtures in the Central Business District bring beauty and a unique identity to Mercer Island’s Town Center. More than two dozen public artworks are set throughout Mercer Island’s downtown core and in the award-winning I-90 Outdoor Sculpture Gallery, all easily enjoyed by a walking tour. Visit the Art Gallery at the Community Center at Mercer View to view changing exhibits by local and regional artists. Artworks at both the Sculpture and Art galleries are for sale.
