Group Work

• Working in groups is a privilege based on good behavior and trust.

• Groups are expected to work together to complete an assignment by the deadline.

• Each group member will be assigned a job depending on the assignment and job responsibilities will be passed out to each group.

• Directions will also be posted on the board.

Seat Work

• Seat work is a time for students to work independently.

• There should be no talking during seat work unless you are instructed to “turn and talk” (TAT).

• TAT is also a quiet time, so please use your inside voice so the other students are not disturbed.

• If you have a question about something we have already discussed, ask three of your classmates before you ask me.

Early Finishers

For students who finish their assignments early, there is a display on the board entitled “Fast Finishers.” Beside the title, a picture will be displayedfor the activity of the day. This could be a puzzle, writing activity, reading, or any other academic activity that will challengewhat the students are learning.

Homework

• I will assign written homework on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. These are practice sheets that the students should be able to complete independently in about thirty minutes.

• Please read with your child for at least 15 minutes each night. The reading log in the BEE binder must be signed and returned to school daily.

Student of The Week

• Each week, I will appoint a “Star Student of the Week” at the end of the day on Friday.

• The following Monday, the student should turn in an “All About Me” questionnaire including a picture. The

sheet will be displayed on a special section of the board. The student will share his or her “All About Me” Monday morning before we post it outside of

the classroom.

Holidays & Birthdays

Birthdays: Each student’s birthday will be written on a “birthday cake” and displayed on the gift bags above our board. The birthday boy/girl will wear a crown throughout the day and will be the line leader and special helper for the day. We will also sing happy birthday to the student during snack.

Holiday parties will be announced in our weekly newsletter. An invitation will be sent through the BEE binder at least two weeks in advance.

4. Follow directions promptly.

5. Use your inside voice.

Behavior PlanEach student’s name will be labeled on a pocket chart. Each pocket will contain a green card, yellow card, and red card. On the back of the green card, it says “warning.” This will be the only warning the students receive. At the end of the day, I will place an X on the class calendar in thestudent’s BEE binder with a marker of the corresponding color.

Each group of tables will be named “group one, group two, etc.” Groups will be rewarded for a number of good behaviors.

Rewards• If a student receives three consecutive green cards, he or she will be

allowed to choose a center during SSR on Monday.• If a student receives a green card everyday during one week, he or

she may participate in his or her preferred activity on Friday.• Groups who follow directions, keep their

work area clean, stay on task, and any other behavior I believe to be exceptional, will receive one marble in their group jar. The group with the most marbles at the end of the nine weeks will have a popcorn party during snack on a predetermined date.

Consequences

• Having a yellow card at the end of the day results in 5 points taken from the weekly behavior grade.

• Having a red card at the end of the day results in 10 points taken from the weekly behavior grade and a note will be sent home to the parents.

• If a student continues to misbehave after receiving a red card, a phone call will be made to the parents.

• Extreme cases will result in an office referral.• Groups who do not follow the rules will have a marble

removed from their jar.
