Welcome to our schoolA very warm welcome to Harpur Hill Primary School and Nursery. Our school motto is ‘Learning for Life’ and we aim to create a learning community where children:

• are aspirational;• enquire about the world;• celebrate diversity

We prepare children for life through our Learning Journey (curriculum) which is carefully planned to cover the knowledge and skills of the national curriculum, as well as learning about the world through global issues, and taking the opportunity to explore our locality: Buxton, the Peak District and beyond. We work in partnership with parents/carers and families to ensure our children enjoy school and engage well with their learning. We welcome visits from prospective parents/carers. Please contact us to arrange a tour of the school with the Headteacher, Mrs Giliker.

Caring family ethos Harpur Hill is a welcoming and friendly school. Our children thrive in a safe and caring school community. We encourage the children to develop skills for life; to be confident and to learn from their mistakes. In our school family, children are taught to respect and care for one another. Older pupils take care of younger children and act as role models, taking on responsibilities; for example, through the School Council or as House Captains and prefects. facebook.com/harpurhillprimary

NurseryOur school Nursery is situated in a separate building, which has been specially refurbished for two, three and four year olds. We have a high number of specially trained staff and every child has a key worker. Joining our Nursery is a stepping stone into the main school when children start Reception. Children benefit from being part of our whole school, for example by taking part in PE sessions with our Sports Coach.

We provide flexible childcare to suit the needs of our families, including funded places. All three year olds are entitled to the 15 hours ‘universal’, and according to eligibility, some 3+ year olds are entitled to 30 hours of extended provision. Additional hours can be purchased to ‘top up’ funded hours, according to your needs.

Wrap around care and extra-curricularBreakfast and after school care is provided by ‘Playdays’.Children can be dropped off from 7.30am and collected as late as 6pm. Prices vary according to hours. Children are provided with breakfast, snacks and can take part in a variety of fun activities.

We offer a range of sporting and extra-curricular activities, which vary according to the season. After school clubs include: football, dance, cheerleading, choir, violin and ukulele. We also provide some breakfast sports clubs.

Holiday CampsWorking in conjunction with sporting partners, we provide some holiday clubs such as football, multi-sports and dance camps. These can be booked separately.

Inspiring exciting curriculum Learning experiences are exciting and engaging; we encourage children to be active and independent learners. Our ‘Learning Journey’ is designed to take full advantage of what is on offer in and around Buxton and the Peak District. Children learn about local history and geography and we enrich our curriculum with exciting visits and visitors; for example, artists, authors and musicians. We also prepare children for a changing world and extend learning to include real life news and global events.

Fantastic sporting and musical opportunities We have an excellent reputation at sport and compete at local and county level; for example, football, running, gymnastics, basketball, cheerleading and athletics. We participate in tournaments with other schools and in festivals with the local sports partnership. All children can learn to play a musical instrument as part of Derbyshire Music Partnership’s ‘Wider Opportunities’ Programme. Pupils may also have additional individual and group instrumental lessons from string, woodwind, brass and guitar teachers.

Purpose built early years classroomsOur two Reception classes are situated in large adjoining classrooms, enabling free flow access to a bright and stimulating environment. We also have a covered outdoor area, playground and grassy areas where children can explore and investigate beyond the classroom.

Excellent location on large safe site Our school site and surrounding area provides many opportunities for learning beyond the classroom. We have three separate playgrounds, a MUGA (multi use games area) and a large field. Our school is next to woodland at the foot of Solomon’s Temple.
