Dear Friends,

We would like to introduce to you the theme of our next season which is a "Season of

Compassion". We are so grateful for all of the community support we've received over the years and to show our appreciation, we want to give back. We will do this by showing our

compassion towards our community in a much bigger way and by helping our world to be more socially aware of what is going on right under our noses in our own community. Our concerts,

plays, musicals, art exhibits, and many of our classes will be focused on the bigger picture, reflecting upon some extremely important issues and will reach out to make sure that

EVERYONE will be able to be part of our mission "to enrich (ALL) lives and create community through the arts".

We are all very excited about this seasons' theme and looking forward to

working towards taking a stronger part in our communities well being. As you know, the arts are woven into the fiber of all of our everyday lives, and can be a powerful source of

inspiration, beauty, engagement, and expression, climbing over walls, weaving through barriers and crossing all boundaries. Music, Art, and Theater are powerful tools for change and

we aim to take a stronger step in that direction this year by engaging more diverse participants and by helping to make art more accessible to everyone. To help us focus on the reason we

chose this season, we were introduced to the "Charter for Compassion" which aligned with our theme and allowed us to take a deeper look at what we are about to embark upon.

We strongly feel that any organization in the public eye has a

responsibility to utilize their skills for the greater good. We need to work together on this. I am including the link to the “Charter of

Compassion” and urge you to take part in or at least "take in" the compelling message the “Charter for Compassion” is spreading worldwide. It's amazing, thought provoking and vital. compassion.com.

As we launch our season, please send us your thoughts and ideas of how we can help through our art. We are ready to take action…

A Cabaret for Compassion will feature the best inspirational songs from Broadway and Disney sung by a multi-aged group of very talented local performers. What better way to

begin our Season of Compassion, than by inspiring ourselves and our audience to reach out to help others through the arts. Songs from such great Broadway and Disney musicals

as Cabaret, Man of La Mancha, Mary Poppins, West Side Story, The Lion King, Rent , Frozen, and

Spamalot , to name a few, will be performed.

River’s Edge Youth Chorus

A community chorus for children ages 8-18 who love having fun and making

music. Rehearsals resume Mondays this Fall. Starting date to be

determined, Hudson High School, 69 Brigham St, Room C110.

River’s Edge Chorale Directed by Paul Johnson

For area adults and high school students who love to sing. Rehearsals resume

Tuesdays, beginning October 7th at 7:00 pm at Hudson High School,

69 Brigham St, Room C110.

Don’t Waste Your Talent!

I recently had the pleasure of meeting a gentleman who has been a violist with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra for

twenty-eight years, no small task in such an accomplished yet tremendously demanding playing job. In the off-season,

he performs with the New Baroque Chamber Players, very skillfully I will add. The latter he describes as being his

'avocation.' It certainly seems to me to be the best of all possible worlds; but Baroque Music is his passion.

But isn't that really what involves us all in a community band, chorus or theater group? Each of us has a vocation (or

course of studies) which paying the bills demands that we follow. But we also have something more to keep us going.

It began in school by taking up an instrument, singing, acting, or all three. Many of us continued in college. Performing

defined us. It gave us someplace (“I'm going down to the band/chorus room/backstage,” or someone (“I play the

Sousaphone”,” I'm an alto, you know”, “The Theatah dahling) to be.

So why let all that talent and enthusiasm go to waste when you are handed a diploma? Performing in community

musical and performance groups is the perfect way to continue to learn and grow in your art AND give back to the

community. The ensembles are products of their environment, determined by that community. Their inclusive nature

invites everyone from all classes, educational backgrounds, and musical preferences to act, play and sing together.

My first season with the River's Edge Community Band has been a whirlwind. My goals have

been, and shall continue to be: to provide an atmosphere for musical performance, learning and

growth; to offer programs which are balanced and cohesive within themselves; to honor with

truth in performance, the wishes of the composers; and to have a good laugh to balance it all.

Paul Hindemith said, “Once you join an amateur group, you are a member of a great fraternity,

whose purpose is the most dignified one you can imagine; to inspire one another and unite in

building up a creation that is greater than one individual's deeds.” For some of us, it's hard to tell

where vocation ends and avocation begins, or whether they just sort of melt together.

Alliance is very excited to present: Synergia 2014, an

engaging moveable exhibit of local history, poetry, art and theater

which will move from town to town in order to be enjoyed by

multiple communities. Marlborough, Hudson, Bolton,

Framingham, Northborough and Sudbury, as well as surrounding community residents, are welcome to attend.

Are you curious? Come to Main Street Café, 182 Main Street Marlborough to engage with the artists, poets, actors

and historians who collaborated to create this interesting and unique exhibit. Synergia 2014 debuted at Hudson

Town Hall last June and will stay at Main Street Café through September and can be seen during regular business

hours.

Community Band announces its first annual Young Artist

Band Competition for students in 12th grade and younger

who play a woodwind, brass or percussion

instrument. The auditions will be held by appointment on

Saturday, December 6, 2014 for a performance with the

Community Band on Sunday, March 29, 2015. The

winner will be chosen by a panel consisting of River’s

Edge Community Band members, music educators and

River’s Edge Community Band Director, David Bailey.

Open Mic Night - 3rd Wednesdays of the Month

October 15 / November 19 / December 17

Come join us and exercise your vocal chords or bring family and friends to

listen and enjoy a night of Broadway Music in one of the area’s best local

restaurants, Harvest Café, 40 Washington St, Hudson 7:30–10 pm.

Accompanying on piano is Maureen Bourgeois from Hudson. Enjoy full

service dining at Harvest Café and some fantastic local talent. Singers

should provide their own sheet music for the accompanist with a two song

maximum per singer. $5 for singers, free to listen.

We would like to invite you to participate in our 3rd Annual

Holiday Shoppe which will take place at our River's Edge

Holiday Concert on Sunday, December 14th at 3:00 pm.

This concert celebrates our 9th year holding this wonderful

holiday tradition; a Holiday Concert featuring music from the

River's Edge Community Band, River's Edge Chorale and River's

Edge Youth Chorus. Last year more than 300 people attended

this event. The Holiday Shoppe will feature you, our talented

local artists, crafters and vendors by opening from 1 – 2 pm

with a special River’s Edge Members Only Reception and

Holiday Shopping Spree and from 2 - 3 pm for the general

public, during concert intermission and after the concert as

well. We will be closing the Holiday Shoppe during the concert and invite you to attend the concert as our guests. A

reserved seating section will be assigned for our vendors.

We will not be requiring donations to raffles, silent auctions, etc. We want you to make the most of your sales and not

have to give up your merchandise for freebies. A single table area and 2 chairs will be provided. Electrical outlets are

available by special request, but outlets are limited and will be on a first come, first serve basis. Please bring your own

extension cords, tablecloths, etc. Wi-Fi is available if you would like to use your mobile device to process credit card

payments. There is a $25 table rental fee (20% will be donated to a local charity). Click Here for an Application.
