Warm-Up: How much time passed?

A man looks at a clock in his office that displays hours and minutes. He reads the clock as 10:54. He leaves the room, and when he returns, he reads the clock at 11:02. Based on this data, what is the shortest amount of time he could have been out of the room? What is the longest?

At your table, discuss possible answers and reasoning, and record your results. Justify your reasoning! Then, select one person to orally present your findings to the class.
