Why is Pilot Doing Pick Me Ups?INTERNATIONAL VISIBLITY – WHY?

• Why do we need to promote Pick Me Ups? • Why do we need to promote Pilot International? • Public Relations (PR) = How we relate to our

“publics.” A successful public relations plan builds and maintains positive relationships between an organization (Pilot International) and all of its 'publics' (the community and potential members).

• Promotion = The practice that keeps Pilot International in the minds of the community and helps stimulate demand for the services of our group.

What are Pick Me Ups Gifts?SAMPLE SCENARIO

Emily Johnson, a retired school teacher, was known for taking care of those who needed it, she was the first to lend a helping hand, including baking pies for those in her community when “someone just needed a little something to brighten their day”. Throughout her life she showed selfless acts including becoming a foster parent for three children, leading a free after school program for latchkey children of low income families, and starting an operation backpack effort that sends low income kids home with meals each weekend. Even though Emily is raising her oldest foster son’s child, taking care of her husband who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and is taking care of her mother who is in her nineties, she continues to run the afterschool program and backpack effort.

All of Emily’s discretionary income goes to helping her family and school programs. The other day one of the volunteers at the afterschool program heard Emily say it had been three years since she had her hair colored or her nails done. When the agency applied for the Pick Me Up for Emily they asked her what she would like. The only thing she wanted was something for the children she works with. Not a surprise to them. The agency decided they wanted her to have something for her – a day of pampering and perhaps some homemade goodies - something that Emily loved and was symbolic of her caring nature. They wanted Emily to have a Pilot “Pick Me Up”.
