‘Service’ – the identity of a Christian
In Greek, baptism implies ‘dipping’ or ‘dyeing’. The latter results in new color as much as faith informs us that ‘dying’ fructifies into new life. In the light of the four so-called ‘Servant Songs’ in the book of Isaiah that mirror the Messiah, Matthew ‘dyes’ Jesus with the ‘Servant-color’ before unfolding his new, covenantal mission. Are we, as faithful Christians, distinctively dyed with Jesus’ ‘servant-color’?
John’s baptism symbolized a new community awaiting the Messiah through repentance and conversion. Thus, by undergoing that bap-tism, Jesus on the one hand does what a good Jew was required to do and fulfills the law; on the other hand he also shows himself as an in-tegral to, and inaugurator of, the new messianic community by enter-ing the Jordan with repentant sinners.
The mere reception of the sacraments would not suffice to project us as the followers of Jesus; only the actual submission of ourselves to the challenges of those sacraments would. Our committed service to others, by dying to selfishness and be dyed in ‘servant-color’, in line with that of our ‘Servant-Master’, has to become our only identity.

"Servicio": la identidad de un Cristiano
En griego, el bautismo implica "inmersión" o "teñido". El último da como resultado un nuevo color tanto como la fe nos informa que "morir" fructifica en una nueva vida. A la luz de las cuatro llamadas "Canciones de sirvientes" en el libro de Isaías que reflejan al Mesías, Mateo "tiñe" a Jesús con el "color de sirviente" antes de desarrollar su nueva misión de pacto. ¿Estamos, como cristianos fieles, teñidos distintivamente con el "color de siervo" de Jesús?
El bautismo de Juan simbolizaba una nueva comunidad que esperaba al Mesías a través del arrepentimiento y la conversión. Así, al some-terse a ese bautismo, Jesús, por un lado, hace lo que un buen judío debía hacer y cumple la ley; Por otro lado, él también se muestra co-mo un integrante de la nueva comunidad mesiánica, e inauguradora de ella, al ingresar al Jordán con pecadores arrepentidos.
La mera recepción de los sacramentos no bastaría para proyectarnos como seguidores de Jesús; solo la sumisión real de nosotros mismos a los desafíos de esos sacramentos lo haría. Nuestro servicio comprome-tido con los demás, al morir al egoísmo y ser teñidos en "color de ser-vicio", en línea con el de nuestro "Maestro de Servicio", debe conver-tirse en nuestra única identidad.

Maintenance Matters
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE. The year 2020 seemed so far away when I was a child, I thought I would never live to see it.
Our Church is in the process of choosing which plan to move forward with for a new parish center, either remodel the gym or build a new building. Voting was held Tuesday 1/7 and voting will remain open till January 31. If you haven’t voted and want to, go to the Church office Tues. thru Fri. and vote there. It’s important that all parish members vote for the plan they will support.
Our pop can drive is still ongoing, if you have cans or bottles to donate bring them to the Church office Tuesday thru Friday. Marcos Orta is ready to turn them into cash for the maintenance fund. Thank you, Marcos, for doing this!
I also want to thank John Bender for putting weather stripping on the outside door for the Chapel, it made a Hugh difference in Chapel com-fort.
We had to replace the exhaust fan in the Church handicapped restroom, which required some siding be removed on the outside wall. The siding has been replaced and now needs some paint when weather allows.
I want to thank Parishioners for their continued support of our mainte-nance fund. It’s comforting to know when we need a new exhaust fan ($100) The money is there.
Don’t forget the crab feed.

Asuntos de mantenimiento
FELIZ AÑO NUEVO A TODOS. El año 2020 parecía tan lejano cuan-do era niño, pensé que nunca viviría para verlo.
Nuestra Iglesia está en el proceso de elegir con qué plan avanzar para un nuevo centro parroquial, ya sea remodelar el gimnasio o construir un nuevo edificio. La votación se realizó el martes 1/7 y la votación permanecerá abierta hasta el 31 de enero. Si no ha votado y quiere tam-bién, vaya a la oficina de la Iglesia de martes a viernes y vota allí. Es importante que todos los miembros de la parroquia voten por el plan que apoyarán.
Nuestra recaudación de botes y botellas de bebidas para reciclar toda-vía está en curso, si tiene botes o botellas para donar, llévelas a la ofici-na de la Iglesia de martes a viernes. Marcos Orta está listo para conver-tirlos en efectivo para el fondo de mantenimiento. ¡Gracias Marcos por hacer esto!
También quiero agradecer a John Bender por poner la protección con-tra el clima en la puerta exterior de la Capilla, hizo una gran diferencia en la comodidad de Capilla.
Tuvimos que reemplazar el extractor de aire en el baño de desventaja de la Iglesia, que requirió que se removiera algunos entablado de la pared exterior. El entablado ha sido reemplazado y ahora necesita un poco de pintura cuando el clima lo permita.
Quiero agradecer a los feligreses por su continuo apoyo a nuestro fon-do de mantenimiento. Es reconfortante saber cuándo necesitamos un nuevo extractor de aire ($ 100). El dinero está ahí.
No olvides la cena de jaiba.
