The Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus — this Friday, June 23
The first feast of the Sacred Heart was celebrated on August 31, 1670 in Rennes, France, but it took the visions of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque for the devotion to become universal. Almost 100 years later, in 1856, Pope Pius IX, at the request of the French bishops, extended the feast to the universal Church. It is cele-brated on the day requested by our Lord—the Friday of the octave of Cor-pus Christi, or 19 days after Pentecost. 40 Hours Devotion in honor of our Patronal Feast Day will begin Wednesday, June 21st and end on Friday, June 23rd. Mass will be celebrated each evening at 7:00 pm and there will be no morning Masses on those days. Members of the Knights of the Holy Eucha-rist will speak after each Mass. Eucharistic Exposition will take place continuously throughout those three days. If you have not already signed up for an hour, please consider doing so. The signup sheet is on the podium in the vestibule or call 402-476-2610. Because the Blessed Sacrament is exposed during this time, it is very important for those who sign up to make sure they are present. It is also important to have at least two people sign up for each hour. There is a particular need to fill the night hours. During the 40 hours, the sign up sheet will be on the podium in the Baptistery. Please put your initials by your name so we know you have signed in. Prayer for the intercession of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Saint Margaret Mary, thou who wast made a partaker of the divine treasures of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, obtain for us, we beseech thee, from this adorable Heart, the graces we need so sorely. We ask these favors of thee with unbounded confidence. May the divine Heart of Jesus be pleased to bestow them upon us through thy intercession, so that once again He may be loved and glorified through thee. Amen

Don’t miss the Ken Lonquist benefit concert Ken Lonnquist and his siblings are former Sacred Heart students. Ken began writing songs when he was a 2nd grader at Sacred Heart Catholic School. He has gone on to write and sing numerous songs for the entertainment of families and their children. He is doing a concert for the benefit of Sacred Heart School on Sunday, August 20th at 1:00 pm. He has also agreed to do a second concert at 3:30 if the first one sells out quickly.
