Dear Parish Family,

Thanks to all the members of our Scouting Community for the wonderful Tribute to our Veterans last Saturday morning... Great Job everyone!!! Today the Girl Scouts are sponsoring the Senior Citizens Thanksgiving Luncheon! I know how hard the girls and leaders have worked to prepare this special meal. I know all of their "guests" will have a great lunch... Next Saturday afternoon, representatives of our Scout Troops will gather in Our Lady of the Skies Chapel at JFK Airport to receive the Peace Light which arrives on Austrian Airlines at 2:45 p.m. They will bring the light to us in a special lantern that will be brought to the altar at the 11:00 a.m. Mass next Sunday, the Feast of Christ the King. We invite all of our Lectors, Extraordi-nary Ministers, Ushers, Choir, and Catechists to join us at the Mass and renew your commitment to bringing the Light of Christ wherever you go. Anyone who would like to bring the Peace Light Home is invited to bring an oil lamp or enclosed candle to Mass. During the closing hymn, the scouts will help light the lamps and candles you bring. We will keep the light burning through Christmas Day. The Light comes from a lamp that burns constantly in the cave of the Nativity in Bethlehem. As you can see, our Scout Troops are busy offering continued and generous service to our community... I am very proud of them and grateful to them! I hope you are too! We are counting on your generosity over the next few weeks as we prepare for the Holiday Raffle, as we prepare the Christmas trees, Angels, and Nativity Scene on the Church lawn. We need everyone's support in these important projects. Please plan your Christmas Gift to the Parish in advance. The Christmas Gift is an im-portant way to say thank you to God for the ser-vice our parish community offers and to provide for the financial health of our parish community. I hope to see everyone at our Thanksgiving Mass on Wednesday evening at 7:30. Please bring food donations to be brought to the altar during the Presentation of Gifts and food from your own Thanksgiving Table for a special blessing after Communion. There will also be a Mass at 9:00 on Thanksgiving morning. Don't forget to make time to thank God, the source of all good gifts! Thank you for your love for God and for our parish... Monsignor, Deacon Bob, and I are grateful for the example of your faith and your ongoing support.

Thanksgiving blessings! Father Peter

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord! Joshua 24.15

CALLING ALL SENIOR CITIZENS

Senior Thanksgiving Luncheon sponsored by the Girl Scouts

Sun, Nov. 19th following the 11 AM Mass.

The Girl Scouts will be cooking the turkeys and all the fixings that make up a

Thanksgiving meal. The meal will be served in the Parish Hall of St. Brendan Church.

Call Yvette Sladky 917-538-7465 to reserve your spot.

Make a Holy Hour.

ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT

We are always in need of more volunteers to spend time with Jesus during Eucharistic Adoration each week. We invite all adorers to sign the adoration book inside the Chapel entrance. If every-

one would come for even one half hour of adoration each week we would be able to fill our schedule. We will have adoration Monday through Saturday from 9-4 pm and Fridays till 7 pm. We believe that Eucharistic Adoration will transform the parish. Come and spend quality time with Jesus. Experience his healing presence. Remember, Jesus is waiting. Miracles happen.

Biblical Reasons for wanting to spend one hour each week with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament:

Jesus will give you ALL THE GRACES YOU NEED to be happy in life. “The Lamb on the Throne will shepherd them. He will lead them to springs of life-giving water.”

Reasons from the Teachings of the Church for wanting to spend one hour each week with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament:

You grow spiritually with each moment you spend with Jesus! “Our essential commitment in life is to grow spiritually in the climate of the Holy Eucharist.”

THANKSGIVING MASS Join us on Wednesday evening,

November 22nd at 7:30 pm for a special Thanksgiving Mass.

There will also be Mass at 9:00 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning.

In addition to the opportunity to give thanks to God for his many blessings, we invite you to bring

food donations as well as some food from your thanksgiving table for a special blessing after

communion. There will be no Eucharistic Adoration on Thanksgiving Day.

Help us reach out to families in our parish and community who are in need at this time

of the year. We invite you to bring boxed and canned foods we can share and place them on the table in front of St. Brendan. Help us build up our food supply. Please

check the expiration dates of all food donated. If you would like to donate a

turkey for us to share with a family for Thanksgiving, frozen turkeys can be

brought to the rectory during office hours. All lectors, extraordinary ministers, ush-ers, choir members, and catechists are invited to join us for the 11 am Mass next Sunday the Feast of Christ the King as we

celebrate the arrival of the peace light from Bethlehem. As we welcome this special light from the birthplace of Christ we invite you to join us in recommitting yourself to ministry in the parish and to carrying the light of Christ with you throughout the year. If you would like to take the peace light home please bring an oil lantern or enclosed candle so we can pass on the light of Christ for you to share with your family, friends and neighbors. Please join us for this special celebration.

100th Anniversary of the Priestly Ordination of Bishop Ford Over the past two years, the Diocese of Brooklyn, in collaboration with Maryknoll, has worked to advance the Cause of Canonization of Servant of God Francis Xavier Ford, M.M., the first Bishop of Kaying. This past spring, I had the privilege of presenting the Cause of Canonization for Bishop Ford to the meeting of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and received the required consent of the Bishops of the United States to pursue the Canonization of Bishop Ford. Bishop Ford was born in Brooklyn in 1892, and was baptized at Sacred Heart Church, Adelphi Street in Brooklyn. In 1912, he became the first seminarian to enter the newly founded Catholic Foreign Missionary Society of America (Maryknoll). He was

ordained to the priesthood on December 5, 1917 and celebrated his First Mass of Thanksgiving in St. Joseph’s Church, now Co-Cathedral, on Pacif-ic Street in Brooklyn, where his image was recently placed during the renovation of the Co-Cathedral. To mark the 100th Anniversary of the Priestly Ordination of Bishop Ford, I would like to invite all of the priests, deacons, consecrated religious, and lay faithful of Brooklyn and Queens to join me at his home parish, the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph, on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at 3 pm as we celebrate Mass in honor of the Centennial An-niversary of the Priestly Ordinaiton of Bishop Francis Xavier Ford, M.M. This celebration will be an important moment as a diocese in which we join

together to recognize the heroic legacy of Bishop Ford and pray together for his Canonization. Parishioners and friends are invited to join us.
