IPv6 Standards for India

• TEC is developing the Standards Document for IPv6 Testing, which will be released in this financial year.

• Standards Document based on International Practices & the framework released by IPv6 Forum under the IPv6 Ready Logo Programme

• Need for IPv6 Test bed for testing these standards

• Organizations can set up the Test Beds and apply for accreditation to TEC/IPv6 Ready Logo

Based on various IPv6 activities and discussions with stakeholders a need for a suitable policy was felt for timely implementation of IPv6 in the country. Accordingly TEC has prepared the “National

IPv6 Deployment Roadmap”, which has been approved by the Government and was released by Hon’ble MOC&IT in July 2010

Actionable Points of “National IPv6 Deployment Roadmap”

1. All major Service providers (having at least 10,000 internet customers or STM-1 bandwidth) will target to handle IPv6 traffic and offer IPv6 services by December-2011.

2. All central and State government ministries and departments, including its PSUs, shall start using IPv6 services by March-2012.

3. Formation of the IPv6 Task Force with the proposed structure.

MOU with the IPv6 Promotion Council, Japan

Today TEC will sign the MOU with v6PC, Japan Under this MOU following activities are envisaged –

Promote IPv6 for telecommunication services Smoothen the IPv6 transition process Assist vendors, operators and other stakeholders in

the transition Test Bed creation for IPv6 testing IPv6 applications in wireless sensors IPv6 in important sectors like Health,

Transportation, Environment, Public Safety Cooperation in IPv6 trails and IPv6 pilot projects

Supporting IPv6 Applications as Part of the MOU

Few Suggested Applications for Pilot projects using IPv6 Logistics and Supply Chain (e.g. Railways, Shipping, Postal etc.) Intelligent Transport System (e.g. Road & Surface Transport) Intelligent Warfare (M/o of Defence) Rural Emergency Healthcare System, Tele-Medicine (M/o Health) Tele-education (M/o HRD) Smartgrids (M/o Power) Smart Buildings (M/o Urban Development, M/o Power) Sensor based Intelligent Weather Monitoring

(Many more such applications involving other ministries are possible and implemented worldwide)

1. Different Ministries, Government Departments and Organizations along with Private Sector can come forward to Work on these and similar Pilot Projects.

2. Many ministries/Departments don’t have enough computerization but they can jumpstart directly with IPv6 without going in for legacy IPv4 networks.

3. Today’s Meeting is with Chairman IPv6 Ready Logo, Japan for IPv6 Applications & Projects

Conclusion

MOU with the IPv6 promotion Council, Japan will give the needed thrust to

deployment of IPv6 in our Country by way of technological collaboration in deploying

various IPv6 applications and Pilot Projects
