SPREAD THE WORDMy Dear Parishioners,

“For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable” (Romans 11:29). God provides for all of us so that we might share in the Kingdom of God. To help us to share we are reminded that all of us, whether we are foreign-born or not, are citizens of heaven. All of us whether low or high in earthly status have been given a chance to live our faith in Christ. Sometimes we live our faith like we watch television: passively, only receiving and never giving. This can lead to an unhealthy imbalance in the way we view God, His Church, and our part in that Church.

We can change! Today God provides for us another chance to join ourselves to Him, to minister to Him in His People, to love and respect Him, and to truly become servants of the Lord. That is the least we can do since we owe our very existence to God! How can we repay the Lord for His mercy, His kindness, His giving us another chance? By getting involved! My prayer is that each Member of our Parish will have the courage and the drive to actively participate in the life of Christ within the Church. Every one of us can give something, great or small! It would be short of a miracle to see greater participation from everybody within the various ministries and organizations of our parish and mission. For all of you who have been participating: Thank You! Please continue! And for those who haven’t been participating: This is a wonderful time to begin!

And remember that the Grace from the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion are for the benefit of our souls. This grace will also help us to respond to God by using our gifts within the Church, our parish and our mission wisely. Find a ministry or an organization that you like…and get involved! There is something for everybody!

SUNDAY, AUGUST 27TH AT THE 5 PM MASS

The Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary, August 22: Pius XII established this feast in 1954. But Mary’s queenship has roots in Scripture. At the Annunciation Gabriel announced that Mary’s Son would receive the throne of David and rule forever. At the Visitation, Elizabeth calls Mary “mother of my Lord.” As in all the mysteries of Mary’s life, Mary is closely associated with Jesus: Her queenship is a share in Jesus’ kingship. We can also recall that in the Old Testament the mother of the king has great influence in court. In the fourth century St. Ephrem called Mary “Lady” and “Queen” and Church Fathers and Doctors continued to use the title. Hymns of the eleventh to thirteenth centuries address Mary as queen: “Hail, Holy Queen,” “Hail, Queen of Heaven,” “Queen of Heaven.” The Dominican rosary and the Franciscan crown as well as numerous invocations in Mary’s litany celebrate her queenship. The feast is a logical follow-up to the Assumption and is now celebrated on the octave day of that feast. In his encyclical To the Queen of Heaven, Pope Pius XII points out that Mary deserves the title because she is Mother of God, because she is closely associated as the New Eve with Jesus’ redemptive work, because of her preeminent perfection and because of her intercessory power. Her Day is coming Make plans to join the St. Monica Knights of Columbus Council 5656 as they celebrate our patron saint, St. Monica, on her feast day with an offering of a pancake and sausage breakfast for the parish on Sunday, August 27th from 8 am to 11 am in the school cafeteria. St. Monica Grief Support Ministry – The New Day Journal SessionsHave you suffered the loss of a loved one? St. Monica will hold a Grief Support Ministry beginning on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, 7 pm-9 pm, Room 212. Meetings will be held once a week for 10 weeks and you will meet in small groups with others going through similar experiences. Sessions are led by trained lay facilitators. The support group is free, with only the cost of $10 for the book. Sessions will also be offered in Spanish starting on Tuesday, September 26, 2017. 2017 ST. MONICA FAITH IN ACTION

St. Monica is proud to report that our 2016 Faith in Action campaign, Beyond Boundaries, was a huge success. Parishioners logged more than 25,000 service hours over the last year. These hours spent in service brining the love of Christ to others through a personal encounter have left an impact on our community.

Our theme for the 2017 Faith in Action campaign is Spread the Word. We are inviting parishioners to look for opportunities in their everyday lives to share their faith with the world. Every Sunday for the next several weeks, you will hear stories from volunteers, parishioners, and staff members. There will be a call to action and information on how you can to Spread the Word.

La fiesta es un seguimiento lógico de la Asunción y hoy se celebra en el octavo día de esta fiesta. La Parroquia de Santa Mónica orgullosamente reporta que la Campaña del 2016 de Fe en Acción, Mas Allá de los Limites, fue un gran éxito. Feligreses registraron más de 25,000 horas de servicio el año pasado. Horas de llevar el amor de Cristo a otros a través de un encuentro personal han impactado nuestra comunidad.

Nuestro lema para la campaña de Fe en Acción del 2017 es, Difunde la Palabra. Estamos invitando a los feligreses a buscar oportunidades en su vida diaria de compartir su fe en el mundo. En las próximas semanas cada domingo, escuchara historias de voluntarios, parroquianos y personal de la parroquia. Habrá un llamado a actuar e informarle como puede Difundir la Palabra.

Ministerio de Apoyo para Luto y Duelo de Santa Mónica ¿Estas atravesando por el dolor de haber perdido a un ser querido? Ahora, estamos inscribiendo para participar en el Ministerio de Luto y Duelo que se iniciara el martes, 26 de septiembre 2017, 7pm-9pm en el salón 212 de Sta. Mónica. El programa se lleva a cabo en 10 sesiones de grupo, junto a otras personas que están pasando lo mismo. Es dirigido por facilitadores laicos capacitados. Mis Queridos Feligreses, “Porque los dones y el llamado de Dios son irrevocables”

(Romanos 11:29). Dios provee para todos para que compartamos el Reino de Dios. Para ayudarnos a compartir nos recuerda que todos ya seamos extranjeros o no, somos ciudadanos del cielo. Todos ya seamos de bajo o alto estatus social, se nos ha dado la oportunidad de vivir nuestra fe en Cristo. Algunas veces vivimos nuestra fe como si estuviéramos mirando la televisión: pasivamente, solamente recibiendo y nunca dando. Esto puede llevarnos a un mal desequilibrio en la forma que vemos a Dios, Su Iglesia y parte de la Iglesia.

¡Podemos cambiar! Dios hoy nos provee otra oportunidad de unirnos a Él, de ministrarle a Su Pueblo, de amarle y respetarle, y verdaderamente ser siervos del Señor. ¡Eso es lo menos que podemos hacer ya que debemos nuestra propia existencia a Dios!¿Cómo podemos pagarle al Señor por su misericordia, Su bondad, Su darnos otra oportunidad? ¡Involucrándonos!

Mi oración es que cada miembro de nuestra Parroquia tenga el coraje y motivación para que activamente participe en la vida de Cristo en la Iglesia. ¡Todos podemos dar algo, grande o chico! Sería un milagro pequeño mirar una participación más grande de todos en la variedad de ministerios y organizaciones de nuestra parroquia y misión. A todos lo que están participando: Gracias! ¡Por favor continúe! Para aquellos que no han participados: Este es un tiempo maravilloso de iniciar!

Recuerde que la Gracia de los Sacramentos de Reconciliación y Santa Comunión son para el beneficio del nuestra alma. Esta gracia también nos ayudara a responderle a Dios sabiamente usando nuestros dones en la Iglesia, nuestra comunidad y nuestra misión. ¡Encuentre un ministerio u organización que le agrade e involúcrese! ¡Hay algo para todos!
