Reading Workshop

Page 16: Welcome to · Tangerine by Edward Bloor-Unit Read-Aloud Text Literary Analysis Writing Piece Nonfiction: Healthy Choices ... Students will be expected to know how to spell and use

Reading Workshop Philosophy Student Choice: Students select books of their choice; putting the ownership in their hands. Students are encouraged to check-out books from the school library, classroom library or the township library.

Differentiation: Students conference one-on-one with the teacher throughout the week. Students tell me what they are reading, goals, and I assess what they need to do in order to become stronger readers and writers.

Reading workshop is the most effective way to instill a passion for reading in students, and ultimately a lifelong love of reading.

Writing Workshop

Page 21: Welcome to · Tangerine by Edward Bloor-Unit Read-Aloud Text Literary Analysis Writing Piece Nonfiction: Healthy Choices ... Students will be expected to know how to spell and use

Goals of Writers Workshop

We will analyze mentor texts as readers, and then as writers.

From the mentor texts, students will brainstorm ideas, and continuously write out ideas.

Writing About Reading is not necessarily Writers Workshop.
