Welcome Message

Welcome to this year’s TELUS Health AB EMR User Conference. I truly hope

that you will enjoy your experience over the next few days, and that you are

as excited, as I am, to hear about the latest tools and technologies to help

improve patient outcomes. We are certainly seeing an increased interest in

more flexible EMR access, evidenced by more than 2000 physicians who are

now accessing their schedules, viewing patient records and uploading photos

directly to their EMR using the TELUS EMR Mobile app. We have tailored the

program to be very demonstrative and less lecture-style. Nearly half of the

presentations were created by EMR users like you who value their EMR and

who wish to share their experiences and best practices.

I would like to thank you in advance for setting aside the time in your busy

schedules to participate at the TELUS Health AB EMR User Conference.

Have a great meeting!

Mike

#TELUSEMR2015

2:55 - 3:45 p.m. When Systems fail: What Will it Take to improve Patient outcomes? Hear from father and health system advocate, David Price, who will share his son Greg and his family’s journey through the Alberta health system as Greg fought, and lost, his battle with testicular cancer. This will be followed by a discussion with Mr. Price, and the audience, as we explore the subject of patient and physician roles in healthcare and how technology and systems can support - and thwart - their goals.

David Price

David Price was born and raised as part of a mixed farming family in the area near Acme, Alberta. He is one of the founders of what has now grown into the Sunterra Group of Companies. He has been active as a member of a number of different local, provincial and national organizations, primarily associated with agriculture and the production and processing of food, and policies associated with trade and economics in this sector. He also has been a member of the Board of Governors of the Olds College, and currently is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Golden Hills School Division. He says though, that most importantly he is the father of Greg Price, someone terribly missed by his family and friends, and who died prematurely as the result of multiple failures and gaps in Alberta’s medical treatment system.

Dave and his family are working to cause improvements in order for the system to provide Safe, Continuous, Collaborative, Patient Partnered Care. (HealthArrows)

Practice Improvement measurement is based on clinical improvement principles and is driven by a desire to positively change clinic functioning and management of patients. Accountability measurement is conducted to quantify the contribution that a clinic is making within the health system or to satisfy reporting that is requested by funding organizations, care delivery partners and/or Alberta Health.
