Welcome to the Cathedral-Basilica of St. Louis King of France...
On behalf of our Archbishop, Most Rev. Gregory M. Aymond, our parishioners, deacons, and priests, I welcome you to St. Louis Cathedral and hope that your visit will be a memorable one.
I invite you to consider the Cathedral your parish away from home. It is my prayer that your time here will be a spiritually uplifting experience. I appreciate your generosity in the support of our Cathedral. It is with your help that we are able to maintain its beautiful state, that we may continue to worship God within these walls as has been done since 1718. May God enrich you with many graces and blessings.
Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time September 8, 2019
Fill us at daybreak with Your kindness, that we may shout for joy and gladness all our days.

TWENTY-THIED SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
September 8, 2019
POST-SUMMER CHALLENGES
With any luck, summer delights will continue a while past last weekend’s Labor Day: refreshing recreation (with maybe an occasional swim) or enjoyable relaxation on the deck (with tasty outdoor grilling). Truth is, for some of us, this year’s Labor Day came way too early. With many schools back in session for a while already, mealtimes and driving schedules needed readjustment to coordinate youth sports with adult commitments. Some religious education and parish programs resumed, too. No surprise, then, that this weekend’s scriptures sound a little like post-summer challenges. For instance, Wisdom reminds us that believers in God can never be content with “timid deliberations” and “unsure plans.” Paul challenges longtime friend and follower Philemon to “let the good you do be voluntary.” Jesus instructs “great crowds” traveling with him—including us—on three things necessary for all true disciples to accomplish. On this early autumn weekend, our scriptures describe disciples’ lifelong labors.

Plans are underway for the opening of our 2019-2020 RCIA program. The initials R.C.I.A. stand for the "Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults." The RCIA is a program of the Catholic Church oriented towards those who are searching and inquiring about the Catholic way of life. Through the RCIA, the Catholic Church extends an invitation to: 1. Those who are not associated with a community of faith and who wish to become Catholics. 2. Those who want to convert to Catholicism from another faith. (For them, the RCIA is the process through which they will become full-fledged Catholics) and 3. Those who want to learn more about the teachings of the Catholic faith. The RCIA program at the Cathedral is under the direction of Deacon Ron Guidry and meets weekly at the Cathedral Rectory. If you are interested in becoming Catholic or want to learn more about your Catholic faith, contact the parish office for registration details at 504-525-9583 ext. 5342.
SACRAMENT OF PENANCE
It is the tradition of the Archdiocese to offer the Sacrament of Penance (Confession) on or near the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross. Confessions will be heard here at the Cathedral on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 10:30am through 11:50am. Please consider taking advantage of this opportunity to invite the healing Christ into your heart with His promise of forgiveness and reconciliation.

POPE FRANCIS’ PRAYER INTENTION FOR AUGUST
Families, Schools of Human Growth That families, through their life of prayer and love, become ever more clearly "schools of true human growth.”
PRAYER FOR SAFETY DURING HURRICANE SEASON
God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed Your order and returned to its former quietude.
You are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control: the Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional
boundaries, invade our land, and spread chaos and disaster.
During this hurricane season we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with passing of time.
O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son on our behalf,
so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem,
where a stormless eternity awaits us. Amen.
DIP JARS NOW AVAILABLE AT CATHEDRAL
Did you want to light a candle but didn’t have any cash? You can now use a credit card to do so by visiting the candle stands behind the pews as you enter the Cathedral. Simply place your credit card into the Dip Jar and you may purchase 3 candles for $6.00. The candles may be redeemed at any stand in the Cathedral. Also, at the request of our visitors, you may now make a $25.00 donation to the Cathedral Restoration and Renovation Fund by credit card, using the Dip Jars located on the walls next to the doors as you exit the interior of the Cathedral. These donations will be used strictly for the maintenance and upkeep of our beautiful Cathedral. Please know that your generosity is greatly appreciated.
*Please note that due to Cathedral hours of operation, confessions will be heard here on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 10:30am-11:50am.
