FROM THE PRIESTDear Parishioner,

Bishop Brennan, after meeting with the Presbyterial Council (Priest representatives from across the diocese), and with an abundance of precaution for the health and well-being of the people of the Diocese of Columbus, has announced that all churches are to remain closed through Easter. A copy of the official notice can be found on our parish website www. ccslcolumbus.org. Obviously, Corpus Christi & St. Ladislas will be implementing these guidelines.

This means that our church buildings cannot be opened for Personal Prayer, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, or confessions until at least after Easter. Like you all must be feeling, this move greatly saddens me. However, we must take any and all steps to slow the spread of this dangerous virus. Because of the decision to suspend public celebrations of all Masses/Liturgies, the diocese has provided specific guidance on how best to proceed with celebrating the sacraments during this time. Here are the guidelines for each sacrament in sections, effective Wednesday, March 18th:

• Mass• Priests are highly encouraged to offer Mass daily, if possible, but in a non-public way.

• Spiritual Communion• There are opportunities to experience the Mass by going to CatholicTV.org, EWTN.com and

Bishop Brennan’s radio broadcast daily on St. Gabriel Radio (820 AM) at 12:05 p.m.• Confirmations

• All Confirmations through April 12, 2020 are postponed and will be re-scheduled at a later date to be determined.

• Baptism• Baptisms are possible based on pastoral urgency. In order to limit any potential spread of the virus

to a vulnerable population, only small, private family Baptisms with only immediate family and godparents attending are allowed.

• Weddings• Some counties are not issuing marriage licenses. If a civil license is available, a wedding Mass can

be celebrated with immediate family members only, keeping in mind the maximum number of persons in attendance according to government directives.

• R.C.I.A.• Due to the suspension of all Masses and Liturgies through Easter Sunday, the Sacraments of

Initiation for Catechumens and Candidates in the R.C.I.A. program are postponed until the current restrictions are lifted.

• Funerals• Funeral Masses can be celebrated with immediate family members only, keeping in mind the

maximum number of persons in attendance according to government directives.• If at all possible, please schedule a Memorial Mass at a time when the current restrictions are lifted.

The Rite of Committal may be celebrated at the cemetery with immediate family members only, keeping in mind the call for social distancing.

• Please note that in the obituary, that the funeral Mass and burial are private family-only events.• Please keep in mind the maximum number of persons in attendance according to government

directives.• Ministering the Sacraments to the Sick and Homebound

• All ordinary in person visits to the sick and homebound are cancelled for the duration of this emergency including for administering Holy Communion.

• Pastoral Ministers and Ministers of Communion to the homebound are encouraged to contact the homebound by telephone or other means to offer comfort and support.

• REMINDER• All parish ministries and social activities, regardless of the number of people, should not

be meeting IN PERSON during this time, including Religious Education, R.C.I.A., ministries, choir practices, parish council, etc. etc.

These guidelines are subject to change as the situation develops. For those that do not have access to a computer or social media, please contact them and let them know the guidelines. I appreciate your understanding and let us entrust our prayers to Our Lady to implore her protection during this pandemic.
