Mission Statement St. Joseph Parish, in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, is a community of God’s people. We, as a faith-filled com-munity, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, worship the Father by imitating the Son. We reach out to all people by evangelizing through the spiritual and corporal works of mercy for the dignity of all human life. By our daily proclamation of the Gospel and celebration of the sacraments, addressing our spiritual, social and educational needs, we shine with the love of Christ.

School News
“As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are
my ways above your ways and my thoughts above your
thoughts.” So the prophet Isaiah speaks the words of God
to us. This 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time teaches disci-
ples of Jesus that the Father’s ways and thoughts are
above those that we have. The implication is that we
need conform to His thoughts and His ways, not our own.
Jesus in the gospel tells the story of the owner (think
God) who hires each laborer (think us) at different hours
of the day but agrees to pay the full daily wage to each.
And, of course, we grumble against Him because it is not
fair. And His response to us is, “Are you envious because I
am generous?” Therein, my friends, is the problem. We
are comparing ourselves to one another, He is gifting each
as He wills. We are envious, He is generous as He
chooses. He calls us to focus ourselves on our gifts. What
are they, how will I grow them, how will I use them to
serve Him and others?
This weekend we are introducing the 31st Annual Bishop’s
Appeal, which has a diocesan goal of raising $5,330,254.
We will show Bishop Rhoades’ video message. Our parish
goal, our share of the diocesan wide appeal, for this year
is $27,421.92. It is important that each parishioner re-
sponds and participates in this annual appeal. Any over-
age funds raised this year will be put toward our next ma-
jor parish project, the remodeling of Bennett Hall and its
kitchen (both in church basement). You will receive a
letter from me this week with your pledge card enclosed.
Please bring it to church next weekend and place it in the
offertory collection. Remember, He is generous…will we
be the same? St Joseph, pray for us! Fr. Jim
Women’s Care Center
WOMEN'S CARE CENTER - NORTHEAST INDIANA Inc., repre-sentatives will be at all Masses the weekend of Sept. 30th/Oct 1st for a short presentation for you to learn more about WCC-NE. It is part of the largest pregnancy re-source center in America and located in Auburn. Please save the date to learn about this remarkable outreach in our community.
Save the date for Pumpkin Festival, October 15.
40 Days for Life From Sept. 27 to Nov. 5, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, the community will take part in 40 Days for Life — a ground-breaking, coordinated, international vigil. Register as an individual at www.ichooselife.org.
October 13th Mass Ending the Centennial Year of Our Lady of Fatima on the 100th Anniversary of the
“Miracle of the Sun” The Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, together with the World Apostolate of Fatima, is observing the conclusion of the centennial year of the Marian apparitions at Fatima with a 6:00 PM Mass on Friday, October 13, at Saint Mat-thew Cathedral in South Bend (1701 Miami Street). October 13 is the 100th anniversary of the “Miracle of the Sun,” associated with the final apparition to the children at Fatima. The centennial Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Kevin Rhoades, and all the faithful of the diocese are invited to attend this special liturgy. A special papal blessing will be bestowed at the Mass by Bishop Rhoades, giving all atten-dees the opportunity to receive a plenary indulgence. After Mass, all are invited to stay for Exposition & Adora-tion of the Blessed Sacrament, the praying of the holy Rosary and Fatima prayers, a Marian procession, and a social in the school gymnasium. Pledge Sunday for the Annual Bishop’s Appeal
By giving to the Annual Appeal today, you answer God's call to discipleship by supporting His work throughout our diocese. Your gift has a two fold effect: it supports the work of diocesan services, ministries and programs, and also offsets our parish goal. Any overage will stay in the parish to fund our next major parish project, the remod-eling of Bennett Hall and its kitchen. Please complete a pledge card this week. Thank you for your prayerful and generous response.
