Welcome to the City of Joondalup’s 2021 Community Art Exhibition (CAE). Always one of the highlights of the City’s visual arts calendar, the CAE celebrates the creative talents of our active and vibrant local arts community.The CAE is open to all residents and members of local affiliated visual arts associations – all at various stages of their practice.The 2021 CAE features around 190 artworks, incorporating a wide range of traditional and contemporary media. Entrants are competing for a share in a prize pool of over $7,000.As the arts community has suffered enormously due to COVID-19, it is time for the City to look more imaginatively at how we can support this sector, and during 2020 and 2021 the City has been shaping a new Cultural Plan. As part of the public program attached to the CAE, the Creative North initiative has offered art associations affiliated with the City of Joondalup a retail pop-up space at both Warwick Grove Shopping Centre and Hillarys Boat Harbour. In the past 12 months, over 15,000 people have visited these exhibitions and many of these visitors have joined one of our affiliated art associations. The Creative North shops have generated extensive sales, with profits returning to local artists.The City would like to thank the 2021 Community Art Exhibition judges: Dr Theo Constantino, Director – Art On The Move, Katherine Wilkinson, Curator – DADAA, and Suzanne Logue – talented local artist, who is a regular popular exhibitor in the CAE.Please take the opportunity to support and appreciate the enormous wealth of local artistic talent that we have here in our City.Visitors can vote for their favourite artwork in the Popular Choice Award, which will be presented to the artist who receives the most nominations.Congratulations to all participants and best of luck.

consideration by the City Curator for this commission. One artist will then be invited to create one artwork for display on the Joondalup Library and later at the Joondalup Courthouse.

The JudgesThe City would like to thank the 2021 Community Art Exhibition judges:Dr Theo Constantino, Director – Art On The MoveKatherine Wilkinson, Curator – DADAA Suzanne Logue – Local artistPopular Choice Award The Popular Choice Award will be presented to the artist who receives the most nominations from the general public. Visitors to the exhibition can vote for their favourite artwork by placing a completed voting slip in the ballot box or by filling in the digital feedback form at the exhibition. The artwork that receives the most nominations at the close of the exhibition will be awarded the Popular Choice Award.Nominations commence on Tuesday 1 June at 6.30pm and close on Sunday 20 June at 1.00pm. The winner of the Popular Choice Award will be announced on the City’s website in July 2021.Sale of ArtworksAll artworks in the exhibition are for sale with prices as marked. Payment at the exhibition can be made by credit card from Sunday 6 June. Please see exhibition attendants if you require assistance. Cash payments can be made at the City’s Customer Service Centre and and are accepted until 30 minutes prior to closing.
